Description générale

  • Résidence principale
Our home is a 1400 sq ft townhome located in an active adult community in Green Valley, AZ. This is a retirement community where the average age of residents is 72.5. The home is very low maintenance— it has a small front yard with desert landscaping and a small back patio area surrounded by the typical walls found in most Arizona homes. We spend many mornings discussing our plans for the day while sipping our coffee on the patio. We purchased the home around 2 years ago and have refurbished it with new quartz countertops, new appliances, new water softener and reverse osmosis. The home is very easy to maintain and is very comfortable. This is a HOA neighborhood and being that most residents are retired, it is very safe and very quiet. People are friendly and the neighborhood is walkable. The home is in the GVR (Green Valley Recreation) and as such we have access to many fitness centers, pools, tennis courts, etc.. Green Valley is very scenic—in addition to extensive desert landscape throughout the community (saguaro, ocotillo, agave, cholla, barrel cactus, etc), the area is surrounded by the beautiful Santa Rita.mountains. Our climate here is USDA zone 9A, Sunset zone 12. We have warm winters, hot summers, and very little rain (12 inches per year)....the sun shines most days of the year. This is a great area to live if you get seasonal depression and crave sunlight and heat. The “snow birds” from the north flock here in the winter to enjoy our many golf courses and quick mild winters.

We would require a house sitter who is able to care for our 2 small dogs (spayed female Chihuahua/terrier mix). We have had the dogs for 2 years. They are rescue dogs who were abused by previous owners. Gracie was from a puppy mill situation and Sophie spent the first 4 years of her life in a crowded cage with other dogs. Gracie warms up to people after they feed her and Sophie is very fearful—she will not walk on a leash but she does go outside into the walled back yard which is totally secure and safe for her and she is unable to escape. There has been continual improvement with Sophie’s behavior because I think she learns from Gracie’s example. Sophie did not bark the first year we had her. Now she has learned from Gracie how and when to bark. Neither dog bites and both are food oriented. They love earning little pieces of dog kibble for going to the bathroom outside. When they dogs are out in the enclosed yard, they must be supervised because there are predators in the desert. An owl or hawk could take them away for dinner because they are only 12 lbs. The desert has coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions and such that roam around at night. Even though the property is walled in, a mountain lion can jump walls. In addition to caring for the dogs, there are some potted plants that will require water from time to time. There is also a small patio pond that will require occasional skimming and topping off with water to replace that which evaporates into the dry desert air. There are about a dozen tiny mosquito fish in the pond which will require occasional feeding. The sitter will need to keep the house tidy. There is a robot vac if you want to use that. The sitter is free to eat anything in fridge, freezer or pantry (all of which are well stocked). There are many spices and ingredients. There are many kitchen tools and accessories.

The neighborhood is extremely safe, relaxed, and quiet. Neighbors are friendly and stop to talk to one another. Everyone looks out for their neighbors. People in our neighborhood are generally retired. Many are single. Most lead an active lifestyle in that they walk, go to a fitness center or pools, golf, play tennis, etc. There are many areas to go hiking or walking. Madera canyon is a nice hiking trip; you have to go early before the day heats up. Lots of people in Green Valley have dogs for companions. The evenings are very peaceful and quiet. It is easy to gaze at the stars at night. During the day you will see quail walking on top of the walls with a dozen tiny babies trailing behind. You will often see roadrunners, herds of javelina looking for food, lizards....all sorts of wildlife in the desert.

dates flexibles

Our dates are not yet firm but very negotiable. We are waiting before we buy our tickets. We would like the house sitter to come a day earlier than the day before we leave so we can give instructions, get to know one another and introduce to our dogs.
