General description

Biggest recycling in Belize with off grid cabanas in the middle of the jungle, so fabulous for wildlife enthusiasts who really want to get away from it all and live with nature. Great for animal and nature lovers !

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • Many plants
  • 5 dogs
  • 3 cats
  • 2 horses
  • Farm animals
  • Exotic pets
We have two dogs that are loose and three on chains ( they either run off to hunt in jungle (and we have had dogs eaten by jaguars )or they chase locals on bicycles) so they need to be walked at least twice a day. Chickens and horse ( who is now pregnant, there should be a foal by summer) get fed and moved around / watered etc every day and we have a small butterfly farm, so we feed and clean the caterpillars every day too.
On a house note: we are completely off grid so have solar and rainwater catchment, this is not suitable for the feint hearted who like creature comforts!! Or who needs loads of electricity and internet, which can be patchy here. So an eye must be kept on how the batteries are doing etc
We also have trees and plants, a few will need watering every day - those in planters under cover.

Practical life

  • Isolated
  • More than 500 m² (5290 sq. ft.)
  • More than 1000 m² (1060 sq. ft.)
  • Bus stop
  • Small shop / Minimarket
  • Internet
  • Ground floor
  • No disabled access
We are in the middle of nowhere in the jungle!!! However the bus system here is good and there are buses to Punta Gorda four times a day. The buses stop a 7 minute walk from the house. We are also a ten minute walk from the village of San Pedro Columbia which has several small shops and bars.
I really don't want you to think this is an easy life, however.....if you love nature and beauty and animals etc etc then there are few places better in the world. This is a true escape. It is hard work looking after all the different animals and plants but it is a different way of life, so rewarding as it gives back what you put in. home grown veg and animals all around....

Comfort and Luxury

  • 2 floors
  • 7 rooms of which 5 bedrooms
We have built several cabanas with double beds or twins so you can take your pick. They are have mosquito nets. We would also be around when you arrive to teach you the ropes. We would prefer that the property in never left fully unattended so we would consider having two individuals / groups / couples in separate accommodation so you can take it in turns! We have a lot of books, we are connected to internet but turn it off at night to conserve batteries, so netflicks live is not an option! ( maybe download stuff to watch before you come?) Internet can also be patchy especially during rainy season / storms. There is an amazing river nearby, fabulous for a swim and walking dogs at the same time and it is beautiful...we do not fit into the average criteria ( which is why I have left all the above blank!) its the middle of the rain forest....and we have built different houses out of recycled materials...
We are smack bang next to the Mayan ruins of Lubaantun and do in fact have ruins on the property.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Countryside
  • Forest
We live in the centre of the cacao and mayan world...there are many places nearby to visit that are untouched by time...
