2 Dogs 1 Cat

Any adventurous, safari loving couple who love pets and who would love to come to Botswana? We have a lovely home with 2 well mannered, friendly and loving dogs and 1 loving cat. These 3 are our children and will give you back as much love as you give to them!

We live on the edge of the river on the outskirts of the dusty town of Maun. Maun is considered the gateway to the Okavango Delta - a world renowned wildlife destination and world heritage site. Maun is accessed by daily flights from Johannesburg (South Africa) or Gaborone, Botswana's capital city which is 1000kms away. Despite the remoteness, Maun is a thriving little town which supplies the tourist industry with goods and has a big Governmental presence being the largest town in northern Botswana.
Our house is a one bedroomed large house on a large shady plot overlooking the Thamalakane river where one can hear and sometimes see hippo. We have domestic staff who have been with us for many years and who handle all the household and gardening chores. However, at times when they are not on duty, our roses will need to be watered. We have reasonable wi-fi at home in terms of Africa! All our previous house sitters have commented on how relaxed and easy our house is and how much they've enjoyed our animals..
Maun has good supermarkets, is easy to get around, has no public transport but good cheap taxis. We are 3 Kms from the Centre of Maun on a tar road. This House Sit is more suited to couples. And if you have "handyman" experience, this is an extra bonus. Living where we do, electricians, plumbers and general artisans are not always 'on-tap' - so knowledge of fixing plugs, pipes, run over lawn mower cables (!) and general household things is a good thing!

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • 2 dogs
  • A cat
  • Birds
We have 2 dogs both 3 years old in Sept 2019. Mister is a 'whole' Rhodesian Ridgeback. His sister Missy is a neutered half english half german short haired pointer. They are madly in love with one another, well trained and love company. They do not require walks outside of the garden - only within our walled garden parameters (which are quite large) every evening.
Our cat Bandit is 9 years old. He LOVES the dogs and they him. However he does take time to get to know strangers but does not bite or scratch unless taunted!
We expect you to spend time with our animals and love them like we do. We prefer it that you are here at home on the weekends and in the evenings when our staff are not on duty.
Our staff love the animals and they them so during the weekdays, you are free to explore.

Tourism and Leisure

Maun is considered the gateway to the Okavango Delta which is the main tourist attraction of Botswana. From Maun, it is possible to do day trips or overnight trips into the Delta. These can be done in your own vehicle (4x4 car hire available in Maun) or on a Guided tour.
We are very happy to help with suggestions of things to do.

Our dates are not yet firm, but we would like to get to know you before we leave so coming 2 days beforehand is a great way to do this. A 'home manual' will be provided once we have settled on a Sitter (to give you an idea of how our home works) and also given to you when you arrive.
