General description

  • Main home
We run a small eco campsite in the far south west of Bulgaria close to the famous town of Melnik and the spa town Sandanski.. We also rent out rooms through AirBNB. However we are closed between November/ December and the start of March so would like the opportunity to travel knowing that our house and pets are being looked after. The house is a typical Bulgarian rural country house. It is heated by wood burners so you will need to be able to light a fire! There is hot water and good showers as well as everything else you might need . It is a comfortable house, we believe in the 4 R's- reduce, reclaim, reuse, recycle and have many quirky things as well as traditional style furniture. But we also have a modern well equipped kitchen and bathroom.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • 4 dogs
  • 7 cats
Update December 2018- we have also rescued two little kittens and then 2 weeks later a puppy. All are doing well but Nacho the puppy is still very scared of people. He is great with the other dogs and cats and will now come in the house and allow us to touch him, but he is still very scared of new people and will bark in fear.

We have three other dogs: Poppy is an elderly collie/ german shepherd cross that we rescued in the UK and brought her over here. Tubby is a youngster- he came to us in a small tub when only a few weeks old. he is a Bulgarian cross breed with some sort of hunting dog in him. Finally Scrappy is a small corgi type who adopted us a couple of years ago when she came into the garden and had 3 pups. Fortunately we found homes for these! The dogs need feeding and walking twice a day although they only require one long walk and in bad weather we will just let them run around our camping field
I usually walk them all in the morning for up to an hour and then a ten minute walk early evening.
Poppy and Tubby sleep in the house but Scrappy refuses to set foot inside- we think she must have had a bad experience before she found us. (update Nov 18- she has started to come into the kitchen for food!) Update- Dec18- Scrappy is now a fully fledged house dog! In fact it is hard to get her outside at times!
Our 5 cats also adopted us- 4 from the same litter and another of a similar age . They are all outside cats who get fed twice a day. They are all very friendly when they know you but are very independent and sometimes we don't see one or other for a few days. Update Jan 19- the two kittens are growing fast, we occasionally let them in the house but like the others they sleep outside (I have a cat allergy!)

There is a small shop in the village for basics and the nearby towns of Sandanski and Petrich both have large supermarkets and everything else you might need. The village also has a couple of bars and a mineral water swimming pool but this is only open June- September. We also have a car that will be available for use if you have a clean licence and buses run past the village quite frequently.

We have now booked our flights!! we leave on the 27th October 2019 so ideally would like someone to arrive 2 or 3 days before to help the animals feel settled and to learn the routines.
We are in New Zealand until the 6th December but if anyone is interested in staying til January it would be great as we could then go back to the UK to see the rest of our family. But otherwise staying till December 8th would be fine
