General description

  • Main home
We live on a beautiful and large raised ground where there are 3 traditional Cambodian houses, just minutes from the tourist center of the city (old market). The first house (the smallest) is my workshop, the second house is inhabited by friends (Nancy and Marion, two childhood friends, and Maxime, Nancy's son, French too) and then the third and last one, at the end of the land is our house.
On the ground floor is the kitchen, open to the dining room and the living room. It's one and same big room. Walls are not walls as you are used to but mosquito nets walls.
Upstairs is the two bedrooms and the bathroom (shower). But also two terraces, both with fans.
Both bedrooms are equipped with fans, mosquito nets and air conditioning. One with a bed of 140 and the other of 160 cm.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • A cat
Our cat, Mono, is a castrated male of 3/4 years who is quite fearful but who loves hugs. He spends a good part of his days in the garden. Our neighbors also have cats (3) with whom he likes to fight from time to time (..!)
There is a caretaker / gardener (Mr Sothea) who lives on the property. There is a housekeeper (Ms Map) and a cook too (Ms Sophear). They all have day off on Sundays. They are all 3 trusted people.
Map is accustomed to foreigners and their habits and is completely autonomous regarding cleaning, ironing and the organization of her timetable.
Sophear can go to the market for you and cook meals for you if you want. Moreover she pays attention to expenses.
For practical reasons, we will have to organize all of that together before we go.

Practical life

  • Village
  • 150 - 500 m² (1590 - 5290 sq. ft.)
  • More than 1000 m² (1060 sq. ft.)
  • Market
  • Small shop / Minimarket
  • Veterinarian
  • Washing machine
  • Enclosed garden
  • No elevator
  • First floor
  • No disabled access
Our neighborhood is quiet. Our street is a dead end so no many cars pass by.
But you have to know that "quiet" isn't the most relevant and appropriate word for summarizing Cambodia ! Deaths, weddings or any other type of ceremony is celebrated loudly and generally starts around 4/5 am ... If your sleep is light, the earplugs will be your best friends :)
Moreover it can be weird to live in a house without hard walls.
But if it's not a problem for you, be sure that you will feel good in this environment.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: because of the high price of electricity in Cambodia, you will be responsible for paying your electricity consumption for the duration of your stay at our house ! This is a non-negotiable point if you want to come to our place.

Comfort and Luxury

  • 2 floors
  • 4 rooms of which 2 bedrooms
  • Regional
  • Terrace / Balcony
  • Car parking available
  • Landscaped garden
  • Book library
  • Swimming pool
The land is divided into two parts: ours and the one (bigger with more houses) on the other side of the street where a large shaded pool is located and accessible all the time.

IMPORTANT POINT : WE DO NOT HAVE INTERNET NOR TELEVISION AT HOME AND WILL NOT HAVE NEITHER THIS SUMMER !

Tourism and Leisure

Siem Reap is THE place to come to visit the wonderful temples of Angkor Wat park !!!
1 day pass = 37$
3 days pass (available 1 week) = 62$
7 days pass (available 1 month) = 72$ ( for me the most convenient if you stay 2 months as there is many many temples to discover apart from the 3 main temples)
The best way to go to Angkor Wat park is to book a tuktuk (around 20$/day )
An other great experience is to go to visit the Tonle sap lake and its floating villages, especially at this time of the year when the water level is high.

July and August mean months of raining season or green season. It's a beautiful time of the year with green landscapes and coolest temperatures (around 30/33 only). It usually rains once a day, at the end of the day. But as we have totally fucked up our beautiful planet, I cannot guarantee how the weather will be.

When you arrive, you will have to pay for the tourist visa (35$ for one month) and you'll be asked an ID photo. If US dollars are not your currency, just change a little amount like 100$ as the currency rate is for sure better here in the town than in your country. As we need somebody to stay 2 months you will then have to renew your visa. I'll explain how to do it.

With a tourist visa you officially cannot rent a motorbike which means you will find some motorbike renting shops BUT if police stop you they will fine you and keep the motorbike...
We have now the passap app so it makes it easy to go around when needed.
