General description

  • Main home
Are you a dog lover who wants to visit the Calgary area over the Christmas and New Year period? We are looking for someone to house/garden and pet-sit our two senior (but youthful) Basset Hounds for 2 weeks in December/January. We welcome singles or couples for this arrangement.

We live in a bungalow in a lovely neighbourhood in Southeast Calgary, close to every amenity you could imagine, and have a great yard which would likely only be enjoyed by the dogs during our winter season :). There are some houseplants that need watering and the mail needs to be checked daily as well.

Our dogs, Copper and Lola, are extremely loving and affectionate and pretty hilarious. They can be vocal at times when a squirrel, dog, rabbit or neighbour are spotted, but they are well house trained and used to being alone for 8-9 hours a day. They need a 45-60 minute walk each day (which can be broken up into 2 x 30 minute walks) but because they are older, they don't love (or need) to go out in the pouring rain or extremely cold temperatures. They like to sleep a fair bit but generally like to be around humans when we are home..

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • Animals with specific needs
  • Many plants
  • 2 dogs
Our two Basset Hounds need a walk each day unless it's raining, extremely hot (over 30 degrees celsius) or extremely cold (below 20 degrees celsius). Copper gets a thyroid pill mornings and nights but takes them hidden inside a treat so it's very easy. They sleep in their own kennels at night and are really easygoing, hilarious, loving and cuddly. Lola loves sleeping on the bed with humans and will jump on the opportunity - and the bed - if permitted, so her door kennel needs to be closed. Copper happily sleeps with his open.

The house plants will need to be watered 1-2 per week and are only on the upper floor.
The mail will need to be checked every weekday.

If you need any other information please reach out.

Comfort and Luxury

  • One floor
  • 5 rooms of which 3 bedrooms
  • Contemporary
  • Terrace / Balcony
  • Car parking available
  • Landscaped garden
  • Television / DVD library
  • Fitted kitchen
  • Sports equipment
We have a fantastic covered gazebo on the back deck with a relaxing garden atmosphere and tons of privacy (this only applies to spring to fall housesits, most likely).

There is a big driveway with room for at least 2 cars, and street parking. WiFi, cable and Netflix access included.

One of our main floor rooms is set up as a gym (mats on floor, free weights, heavy bag and speed bag, and treadmill).

Tourism and Leisure

  • City
  • Zoo
  • Cinema
The home is near every amenity you could want, close to bus access and 20 minutes walk (or 5 minute bus ride) to the LRT station. We are under 1 hour away from the Rocky Mountains so a day trip is totally doable and a wonderful way to get out of the city. Lots of great restaurants nearby as well.
