General description

  • Main home
Historic house built by Jacob Hespeler himself. This house is well over 100 years old but has been fully updated, while being careful not to remove it's historic charm. The house is on a half acre property full of trees and plants. The newest addition to the property is a heated salt water pool in the backyard. There is also a patio area right out the back door with a large BBQ and sitting area, as well as a screened in sitting area on the front porch.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • A dog
  • 2 cats
We have a medium sized puggle/bulldog mix (looks like a small boxer) and 2 tabby cats. All 3 are very affectionate and friendly. Feeding and caring for these animals is the main reason for this posting. The dog does not require walks as he is very good at being active himself when let out in our fenced backyard.

Besides that, just general upkeep of the house/property while you stay. In the summer months, the pool would require a little attention as well, but it is salt water and has a cleaning robot so it is relatively easy to maintain.

The house being set back in a large property provides a good amount of privacy. Being able to sit in the front or backyard during the summer is great especially with all the trees and plants.

Cambridge is in a great location within 30 minutes to St. Jacobs, and 1-2 hours (depending on traffic) from Stratford, Niagara Falls or Toronto. The house is about a 5 minute drive to the nearest Grocery store, and a 10 minute drive to Cambridge's main strip (Hespeler Road) where you can find all sorts of restaurants and stores as well as the Cambridge Mall.

The house is outfitted with Google home in the living room which can be used to set the thermostat, turn on/off the lights, play music (via spotify account), and control netflix or youtube on the TV. It's also useful just to ask general questions.

For extended stays, if mowing or snow removal is necessary, we have a lawn tractor that makes the job easy.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Museum
  • Cinema
  • Theater / Opera
The closest tourist destination is St. Jacobs which is a beautiful little town just to walk through and explore the shops. It also hosts the famous St. Jacobs Market that is open year round on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Toronto is within an hour on a good day, and it has many sights including the CN Tower, Toronto Zoo, and Ripley's Aquarium just to name a few.

Stratford is also within an hour. Another nice town, and it hosts the Stratford Festival from April - October wich is an internationally renowned repertory theatre festival.

Niagara Falls is about an hour and a half away with many things above and beyond the falls to do! Also Niagara on the Lake is in the same area which is well known for it's many wineries.
