General description

  • Main home
Quiet, lakeside retreat in log home. This is perfect for lovers of the outdoors and people who would like a little downtime. Enjoy the ambience of our wood stove, relax in the hot tub and snuggle with our shy but friendly cat. The road is quiet and lovely for walks, and later you can snowshoe on the lake.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • A cat
Responsibilities will be to take care of our indoor cat, Vladimir. He is shy, but will likely snuggle with you within a day or two. He doesn't require any pills or special care (but needs to have a clean litter box). We have very few house plants to manage. There is an outdoor hot tub (which is wonderful!) and the chemicals will need to be added/balanced. We'll leave instructions for this. In the winter months, our sitter will need to shovel snow from our short walkway and clear the snow from the driveway. We have a snow blower for this.

Practical life

  • Isolated
  • 50 - 150 m² (530 - 1590 sq. ft.)
  • More than 1000 m² (1060 sq. ft.)
  • Internet
  • Television
  • Dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Deep freeze
  • Ground floor
  • No disabled access
This is a lakeside log home in a beautiful cottage area. We have an outside hot tub, a wood stove, kayaks, canoes, an outdoor fire pit, barbeque, dock and swimming platform. In the winter months, feel free to use our snowshoes or use the snow blower to clear the ice to make a skating rink. It is also a dark-sky zone so stargazing is extraordinary - especially in the winter months. The area is quiet and perfect for nature lovers. Our neighbours are friendly and helpful.
This is a lovely, quiet cottage area, but as such, it is also isolated. An all-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the winter months, as our hilly roads can be difficult on snowy or icy days. Grocery stores, hardware stores, a medical centre, pharmacies and gas stations are all a 30 minute drive away. The closest cities and hospitals are an hour away.

There is no garbage collection. Trash and recycling need to be brought to the waste disposal site, about a 15 minute drive away.

We have decent internet (fast enough for live streaming and video calling), although our isolation makes for weak cell signals. Your cell phone will probably work inside for texting, but you might need to stand on the hill outside for phone calls! You are welcome to use our land line for phone calls, although you'll be expected to pay for any long distance calls, of course. Your best bet would be to use our wifi for communications (facetime, whatsapp, etc.)

There is no need to worry about drinking water. We have filtered well water and it is potable year-round.

It sounds very isolated, but maybe it's exactly what the doctor ordered! We've lived here for 20 years and absolutely love it (and usually we have trouble getting rid of our guests; they love it so much, too!)

Comfort and Luxury

  • One floor
  • 9 rooms of which 3 bedrooms
  • Traditional
  • Terrace / Balcony
  • Car parking available
  • Television / DVD library
  • Book library
  • Fitted kitchen
  • Sauna / Jacuzzi
  • Sports equipment
We have an outdoor hot tub, a bbq, snow shoes and lovely cottage roads to walk on. We are in a dark sky zone and the stars are outstanding. We recommend viewing them from the hot tub! We are right on a lake, so in the summer, use our canoes or kayaks, swim from our dock or enjoy our outdoor fire pit. Indoors, we have a wood stove to enjoy, loads of dvds, a Netflix membership you can use, great Wifi and a full bookshelf.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Forest
This is a cottage area where people go to get close to nature and away from the city. Tourists generally relax, do yoga, go on walks, bike, canoe and enjoy the lake. In the winter, they ice fish, snow shoe and cross country ski. There is a network of trails about 15 minutes away that are quite nice if you'd like different places to walk or snow shoe. The cities of Kingston and Perth are each about 1 hour away and are nice to visit.
