General description

  • Main home
This house is in a small gated friendly community, five minute walk to the beach. The community is beautifully landscaped with lots of trees, bougainvilleas, and flowers of all types, I have good WiFi, a Magic Jack for making international telephone calls, and television using an Amazon Fire Stick. I had a large water pump installed with two filters, to ensure there is always a steady water supply. The back yard faces a lovely forested area that attracts various types of birds and other wildlife. Orange headed iguanas reside in the trees and often visit the vacant lot next door to me to forage on flowers. I am listening to the toucans singing as I type this.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • 2 cats
Holiday is a 15-year old indoor cat who takes a while to warm up to people, but is super lovable once he knows you. Henry is a very vocal stray, who comes to visit in the morning and evening for his meals and talks the entire time. Henry has been neutered and had vaccinated. Tasks would be to feed them, sit with Holiday, chat with Henry (honestly, I've never met a cat who talks so much) and keep Holiday's litter box clean.

Small gated community close to the beach. The town center is a five-minute walk and has a few restaurants and a small grocery store. The town of Jaco is a 25 minute drive to the north and Quepos/Manuel Antonio is 30 minutes to the south. The town of Parrita is 15 minutes by car and has medical, pharmacies, shops and a large super market. Every morning you can take a long walk on the beautiful beach, and if you like to play in the water I have boogie boards and surf boards available for your use. If you like yoga, a session is offered every morning at a nearby beach hotel (10 minute drive or 30-minute walk along the beach) for $10 a session. Happy hours abound at the various beach-side hotel restaurants.

  • Veranda
  • Television / DVD library

The community consists of about 40 homes and is beautifully landscaped. The neighbors are a wonderful mix of Americans, Canadians and Costa Ricans (Ticos). We have a small and peaceful community pool, which is a wonderful way to cool off on hot afternoons. Macaws and Toucans often hang out in the neighborhood trees, and it is not uncommon to be woken up by the very loud macaws, as my daughter just found out on a recent visit. I have a large kitchen, a comfortable living room, laundry room, and a screened in rancho that is a great place to have your morning coffee or relax with a book. We like color here, so in addition to all the houses in the neighborhood being painted in various bright colors, the walls on the inside of my house are also colorful - coral, yellow, lavender, purple and periwinkle.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Sea
  • Countryside
  • Beach
Here on the coast it is hot and very humid. August is rain season (my favorite time of year) so expect some afternoon showers or thunderstorms. If you like to hike and want to see wildlife, I recommend a visit to Manuel Antonio State Park, where you can see howler monkeys, white faced capuchins, sloths, frogs, lizards, land crabs and much more. If you hire a guide you will see much more than you would simply going it alone. Also nearby is the Rainmaker park, which is a beautiful hike with several hanging bridges. If you like waterfalls, there are plenty to be found not far from here. A fun adventure also is a monkey tour along the river in a boat, or a boat ride down the Tarcoles river, where you will see lots of birds and crocodiles. Walking distance along the beach is a beach-front restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or a fresh pina colada while enjoying the view. On a recent visit, we spotted a mother sloth and her baby high up in the tree above us. Jaco offers something for everyone, ATV rentals, zip-lining, rafting, butterfly and frog pavilians. Horse riding is offered on all the beaches, you call them and make arrangements to meet with your guide and the horses at a beach location that is convenient for you. Or if you are just looking for some relaxation, Bejuco beach is all you will need.

I will be leaving on August 13, but would like to have someone arrive a couple of days early to meet the cats and acclimate to the area. My master suite is upstairs, and the two guest rooms are on the main level.
