General description

  • Holiday home
A beautiful stone cottage in the Tarn. Situated 20 kilometres from Albi, it is 5 minutes from the charming bastide of Realmont. Set in a wooded valley within acres of gardens and fields, The Little House is the perfect retreat.
The winters are cold and mainly dry. It would suit someone who likes calm and isolation. Eg a writer or someone who works from home. The Wifi connection is good.
The house is cosy, with a wood burning stove plus electric radiators and all the necessary facilities
A car is available for small trips.

There are plenty of amenities nearby. The Lac de la Bancalie is only ten minutes by car from The Little House: here you can enjoy swimming, pedaloes, fishing, picnics and long walks along the water's edge. A full tour of the lake takes 2h.40mins.
Realmont, the nearest town, is a beautiful bastide with a surprisingly large market every Wednesday with a great choice of local produce . It is a thriving place with an excellent range of shops (all of which, apart from the supermarket, are open on Sunday mornings) and several bars & restaurants.
Albi, the capital city of the Tarn, is only 20 minutes away, with the tallest brick built cathedral in Europe - as is the picturesque town of Castres with the river Agout at its centre.

The Tarn cuisine is good country food, tasty, spicy, generous, colourful, but above all greatly varied : there are many restaurants to choose from.

Menus of course include meat : calf meat from Segala, Aveyron, Lauragais, duck, pigeon, poultry, pork and lamb; goat, ewe and cow cheeses. The local wines are from Gaillac, where there are some of the oldest vineyards in France.

The Tarn is a varied region which supports a wide range of plants and bird-life. From where we are, to the west lie the Gaillac vineyards, to the east the Sidobre national park with its granite resources and La Montagne Noire, to the north the Tarn Gorge (and the spectacular road-bridge at Millau), and to the south the foothills of the Pyrenees and many of the Cathar castles.
It's fabulous country for walking, birdwatching, contemplating.

From Tuesday 2016

To Thursday 2016

flexible dates

Our dates are not yet firm and we are flexible. If someone would like to do a month and then followed by another house sitter, we would be happy with that.
Basically we want to have a break, and our holiday rental busniness will be closed for that period and we will decide how long we want be away when we find a house sitter.

We plan drive down to the south of Spain, we will furnish details of where we will be staying nearer the time.
