Needs and Animals
- My pets
- Many plants
- 2 dogs
- 2 horses
- Exotic pets
The dogs need to be kept within the confines of our fenced homestead area - about one hectare.
A small vegetable/herb garden and tropical plant garden (all in containers) requires watering on a daily basis during the hot dry months - using hosepipes and several sprinkler systems - which take about 30 minutes to complete. You can harvest edible plant produce on demand, and are welcome to share excess with others. With exception of the dogs, all other animals and gardens are looked after by staff/volunteers.
Staff/volunteers need to be dropped off at taxi-depot (3kms from homestead) every afternoon at 5pm. Supplies for home, centre, staff and volunteers need to be purchased in town with the centre's vehicle. As a house-sitter you'll need to have a valid driver's license.
No significant skills required - keeping our dogs and gardens in good shape, creating a visible presence for visitors and neighbours, dealing with odd weekend phone-calls, and being able to drive to town to shop for food and other essentials (we provide a vehicle + fuel for this purpose) and drop off staff/volunteers on weekdays.
