General description

Nomador Stopovers offer community members the option of a Stopover while travelling. They are offered to help develop international friendships between members of the Nomador community.
If you are willing to host a traveller from another country for a night or two, you can list a Stopover for your home.

  • Main home
My treehouse is located on the very outskirts of the small town of Hønefoss. It is very quiet in the neighbourhood, and my house is the last one in a dead end gravel road. Nearly ALL neighbours have dogs, so some barking when you go for a walk. On 2 sides of the property there is just the woods, and there is a path right behind the house for hiking around for 1 hour, or extending the hike up to the BIG forest Nordmarka (with uphill walking in the beginning). From the livingroom you can see 2 mountain areas, both Norefjell and Vikerfjell.

Practical life

  • Village
  • 50 - 150 m² (530 - 1590 sq. ft.)
  • More than 1000 m² (1060 sq. ft.)
  • Bus stop
  • Supermarket
  • Doctor
  • Pharmacy
  • Hospital
  • Internet
  • Dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Deep freeze
  • Enclosed garden
  • Ground floor
  • No disabled access
I live in the very outskirts and you would be nearly completely dependant on your own vehicle! There is a schoolbus coming twice a day, but its a 20 minutes drive to come to the bigger busstops. 1h 15 min drive to Oslo city, 1 hour to Oslo airport Gardermoen.

You would need 30 min. walk to the shop, church, barber and doctor. Hønefoss also has a hospital, but that´s on the very other side of town. Cinema and library, pedestrian zone, waterfall and shops, restaurants and overprized pubs are in the city centre. It really is a sleepy town with a bit too much of car traffic in rush hours. We also have a refugee camp outside town.

Comfort and Luxury

  • 2 floors
  • 7 rooms of which 3 bedrooms
  • Regional
  • Car parking available
  • Landscaped garden
  • Veranda
There is no luxury at my home at all, and maybe important- I live without TV!! All furniture is bought used, and its not overloaded by furniture either. This is clean, but easy accomodation in the half basement. I have 2 spare rooms in the half-basement: one is reserved for couchsurfers, the other one would be yours. You get your own bathroom which you occasionally share with couchsurfers if there is one.

I can send you pictures or show you around on skype if you. wanna get a better impression in advance.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Mountain
  • Countryside
  • Forest
  • Beach
  • Museum
  • Theme park
  • Cinema

Hønefoss has excellent access to lots of outdoor activities, again: if you have your own vehicle or like long walks!

The nordmarka forest invites for hiking, there are hiking and mountainbiking areas in all directions. My place is located in between 2 fjords, Tyrifjord and Randsfjorden, both suitable for fishing, and any watersports activity. We have a common pool for indoor swimming outside town, a glass factory nearby, a nice art museum and sculpture park, fjord- beaches ( both sand and stones, with comparatively cold water in early summer, but still nice!) , many small and big lakes in the forests suitable for fishing, canooeing, swimming.

Hønefoss is not too far from higher mountain areas, like Norefjell and Vikerfjell, again with loads of hiking and outdoor possibilities and it is easy to reach Oslo city by buss if you can reach the busstop with your own vehicle first.
Since I host couchsurfers I have enough tourist information material at my home about Oslo and the region. There are also 2-3 very good paragliding spots nearby, for those who are into this.

English (or original ) language in cinemafilms is normal here, but I doubt that you would benefit from other culture-events or facilities if you don´t understand norwegian.

The pilgrims path from Oslo to Trondheim crossed not far behind my house, and sometimes lost backpackers are showing up in the garden who didn´t see the crossing in the woods.

I am especially happy to host motorcycle travellers! I also have a guest motorcycle, a Honda XL600 V Transalp from 1995. Suited for all roads, gravel and tarmac! :) You can also find me on Couchsurfing, check the city Hønefoss/Norway hosts to find me there.
