General description

  • Main home
Beautiful modern home in secure estate overlooking farm dam and mountain. You will have the use of our guest suite and full run of the house and swimming pool. There are various hiking trails running through the estate plus restaurant, tennis courts, squash court, bike track and waterfront onto the main Hartbeespoort Dam.
There are numerous activities in the neighbourhood including ballooning, paragliding / paramotoring, boating and kayaking. The birdlife is prolific and varied with more than 200 species seen on the estate.
Although we are only about 45 minutes from Fourways, Sandton, you will need your own transport to get around.

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • A dog
We are looking after our daughter's Scottish Terrier, Nessie. She is 8 years old and a quiet and self-sufficient dog who appreciates simply being with people. She needs to have fresh water and her dry food topped up twice a day. She also needs a walk at least once a day in the early evening.

We have a few pot plants that need watering every couple of days and our garden will also need watering - manually operated sprinkler system - if the weather is hot and dry.

We have a housekeeper who comes in on Mondays and Thursdays and a gardener who is here every Thursday to look after the house and garden.

Very peaceful and relaxing - everyone who comes here wants to stay forever. It is like being perpetually on holiday. There are facilities for barbequing both at our home as well at the clubhouse / restaurant and down at the waterfront. Have a look at the further information on our secure estate here
There are numerous restaurants in the neighbourhood, offering everything from pub food to fine dining. We shop either at our local shopping centre (10 mins drive away) where there is a large supermarket or else in Fourways on our regular visits to Sandton and Johannesburg.
The house is very easy to keep clean and our housekeeper, who comes in twice a week, is delightful, helpful and organised.
In the event of electricity outages, we have a petrol-fuelled generator to help with any 'load shedding' that may take place.

We are in Magaliesberg Biosphere transition zone, a very special protected place - have a look at The Magaliesberg mountains are almost 100 times as old as Everest!
The Cradle of Humankind with fascinating displays of hominid fossils at Maropeng and the Sterkfontein caves are an 35 minute easy drive away.
There are some hiking trails up the Magaliesberg if you're feeling energetic. Or there is an aerial cableway on the other side of the Hartbeespoort Dam (less than 30 minutes away) that will whisk you up to the top of the mountain if you're feeling rather lazier.
If you are keen on wildlife, there are also a couple of vulture restaurants and rehabilitation centres in the neighbourhood doing wonderful work in conserving these endangered birds.

Because of the Covid-19 lockdown, we will only consider sitters who live in South Africa - it is unlikely that our borders will be open in time to organise an international sit.
We would like our house-sitters to arrive the day before we leave - which will be on 15 October - so we can introduce them to our dog and get to know them a little.
