I'm a British Wildlife Conservationist, and I lived in Ecuador and Guatemala for 14 years, I am a big animal rescuer so I brought 5 pets from South America to Spain. I have two dogs and three cats, all with their own talents and quibbles. I guess, you would need to be patient with Milu out of all of my pets as she is the oldest that may have been on the streets before being rescued. I brought them to Spain from South America after my husband died earlier last year.
My dog Honi is the biggest, she is a big gentle bear, 6 years old, she survived being poisoned in Peru earlier this year before we flew to Spain, she is amazing. Honi is good at being walked and good with other dogs, sometimes she barks at other passing dogs but thats because the little grey dog Milu. Honi, rarely barks but when she does its a deep bark so she is a good protector and senses when people are not good. She also likes rubbing her rear back end on furniture and on you like a bear scratching its bottom. I am sure she was a bear in her past life.
Milu in the house is lovely, and quiet, sometimes she does a lovely wolf howl when she is happy,. However, as soon as we go out, she turns into a gremlin, who is the one high- maintenance dog, she is a drama queen when we go out, she is super anxious and she gets over-zealous and excited and screeches with excitement when she sees other dogs on the street. She thinks its her mission to meet and greet ever other dog in the world, and if she can't she gets very upset.I am guessing she could have been chained up or kept in a courtyard for a long time without much socializing when she was younger before she got hit by a car and ended up in a refuge where I adopted her when she couldn't walk for a month.. So be mindful, Milu is a rescue, with behavioural issues, I adopted directly from the shelter in 2015, whereas, Honi the bigger one, I got when she was a very young puppy so Honi had more of a chance to be trained Honi. Milu is the most demanding to walk, she pulls a lot and requires regular care, discipline and reassurance because of her high anxiety levels which cannot be reduced, whatever you try. She wears a special dog leash that goes around the muzzle to control her better and reduces her pulling as well as a harness, this helps me control her the best way possible.
The cats are Mittens, Sati and Zen, I hand reared Mittens after finding him dumped in a rubbish heap with his brother just barely a few days old with eyes closed, in Ecuador, so we are super close and he is very affectionate with people, he likes to jump up on your shoulders when you are in the kitchen and loves having his tummy rubbed and plays fetch with string and balls of paper.
Zen is a little orange fluff ball who had very badly malformed corneas and eyelashes that grew into her eyes when I first adopted her from the shelter, she had to have a lot of attention and eye care before but now she is much better and doesn't need any care for her eyes. Her eyesight has improved but because she doesn't see so well, she is tactile in the way she bites and claws to sense her way about with people, so you have to be able to tolerate that, she isn't too bad but occasionally it can hurt, she is quite gentle with it usually, but its her way of showing love and affection. She also hunts big insects and brings them in at night sometimes, so you have to catch them and put them in a glass and let them out again.
Sati, is also long haired white and brown, she is the most timid, very shy, she doesn't like strangers and will take days to come out with new people, she isn't a lap cat but she does like to be stroked when she gets used to you. She is chilled out and low maintenance.
No special medication for the pets, all are pretty healthy, I get their food delivered too, so no carrying heavy bags of food.
