General description

  • Main home
We are situated 3 miles inland from Starcross, on the estuary of the River Exe in beautiful Devon. About 30 minutes from the heart of historic Exeter. The house is a barn conversion. The conversion was done around 1990 but the building dates back to around 1900. The sleeping accommodation for guests consists of a double bedroom (en suite) and one (very small) single on the upper floor. There is also a spare double on the ground floor. (We prefer guests not to use the master bedroom.) Upstairs also has a small library/reading area and a computer/office room that is in an enclosed gallery overlooking the sitting room. Downstairs has a lovely kitchen/dining room, a sitting room with a vaulted ceiling and wooden beams, in the hallway there is a laundry facility and just off the hallway a further office/computer room. There is also a separate bathroom on this floor. The house looks out over countryside and there is a small paddock with a Dartmoor pony called Alfie. The house comes with and a dog called Heidi (Weimaraner) and a cat called Fifi. Heidi might be a problem if you have small children. There are two garden areas. One immediately outside the front door with lawn, patio with table etc. and flowerbeds. There is a separate area with a greenhouse, potting shed, vegetable plot and deck. We are close to the English Riviera (aka Torbay) and within easy reach of Cornwall and Bristol. London is 3 hours by train or, for the masochist, a 3-4 hour drive on a good day.

Needs and Animals

  • Animals with specific needs
  • A dog
  • A cat
  • A horse
The dog needs a minimum of 1 hour exercise every day and feeding twice (only). There are plenty of woodland areas nearby. She needs medication once a day (1.5 pills). We don't want her to be left alone for more than a maximum of 4 hours at a time.

Alfie the pony needs to be given some feed once a day and his poo needs to be collected up and put into the compost heap once a day.

The cat just needs feeding twice a day.

The gardens are self watering but if there is ripe fruit or veg then that should be picked and eaten.

Big comfy sofas and a big screen TV. A juke box (careful about the neighbour who lives underneath) that can be a bit temperamental as it is old and mechanical - it can also connect to an iPhone so you can play your own music through the Juke Box speakers.
