General description

  • Main home
I live in a small, 1940's home with lots of charm, coved ceilings, wood floors, great neighbors. It is walking distance from downtown, grocery stores, several parks and many restaurants. It has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a large attic which I am currently renovating into a work space/office but is currently known as my "cattic" as it is the primary residence for my 2 cats. There are a total of 3 residences on the property, the main house, where I live, a basement apartment and a mother-in-law unit at the back of the property, which is an AirBnB (the same guest will be there the entire time I am away, so the only responsibility is to be a good neighbor).

Needs and Animals

  • My pets
  • 3 dogs
  • 2 cats
My main concern is that my pets are well-taken care of. The dogs need two daily walks. They love hiking and are great on trails. The litter boxes and yard need regular scooping.

The dogs are Sidney, a 50# 10 year old Border Collie mix, Bark Gable a 6 year old, 65# goofy Shepherd mix, with movie star good looks who charms all, but does have a lot of energy, and Manny a 5 year old 18# terrier mix, and Gabe's best friend. All are healthy. Manny is on the nervous side and has bolted from friends and a petsitter in the past when off-leash, so when not with me, or in a fenced area, he is always on leash.

Hattie cat spends much of her time in the attic and never goes outside. You may not see her, except at meal time, until she is used to your presence and then she will happily sleep in your lap or on the cushion next to, or behind you on the sofa. Sadly, she seeks every opportunity to bully Princess Booger my cat with a gimpy leg, who prefers the dogs to being chased by Hattie and loves the outdoors, where she has her own cat tree/house and she hunts insects and sun bathes. But she too is will be a lap cat when she feels like it.

The garden should not require much/any work in April. If it rains enough for the grass to come out of dormancy, I will have someone mow the lawn if needed (unless you love mowing). Depending on the weather and how much gardening I get done prior to departure, there may be spring greens and some cold weather vegetables available to harvest/eat.

Boise is a city of approximately 300,000 people nested at the base of the Rocky mountains and is a city known for access to outdoor adventure, be that hiking, backpacking, mountain-biking, white water rafting/kayaking, camping or hot springs. There are many parks and a 20 mile greenbelt that follows the Boise river through town with a walking/cycling path. It is also famous for its large Basque community, with Basque restaurants and cultural events. Restaurants are plentiful and have considerable variety from Basque to to Ethiopian. Music and theater events are common and there is arthouse movie theater where you can dine before your movie and have a glass of wine or beer with your popcorn.

Comfort and Luxury

  • One floor
  • 5 rooms of which 2 bedrooms
  • Traditional
  • Car parking available
  • Landscaped garden
  • Book library
  • Art and music
  • Air conditioning
  • Fitted kitchen
  • Sports equipment
I do not currently have a television, though that may change this winter. I do have music options and lots of books, including some about local hiking, snow shoeing, and hot springs.

Tourism and Leisure

  • Mountain
  • Countryside
  • City
  • Museum
  • Zoo
  • Cinema
There is a park with a pond very near where you can rent kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, there is even a surf wave for kayakers/surfers. There are lots of hikes as close as 10 minutes away and you can get into the mountains within an hour. In April, there may still be enough snow to ski at our local ski mountain, 30 minutes away (Bogus Basin) but it is more likely that you would have to drive to Brundage (2.5 hours) or Sun Valley (3.5 house) and depending on winter/global warming, there's a good chance the ski season will have ended.

If you are campers, I do have camping equipment. I would ask that you take Gabe and Sidney with you as they love the great outdoors and a good campers. I have a friend who, if available can take care of Manny (he is not a great traveller).
