Needs and Animals
- My pets
- Many plants
- A dog
We have wire-haired Dachshund. She is 6 years old and pretty easy to care for. She needs to be fed morning and evening and she loves a mid-day walk; there are paths nearby, or in the neighborhood.. In the morning and evening she can be let out into the yard, but has to be supervised as she has been known to run off when not watched (even though the entire yard is fenced). There is also a vegetable garden and other parts of flower gardens that need watering, every day or every other day if there is no rain. There are some plants in the house as well that need watering.
- 150 - 500 m² (1590 - 5290 sq. ft.)
- More than 1000 m² (1060 sq. ft.)
- Metro/tram station
Norton is a small town of about 18,000 people with drugstores, one grocery supermarket, coffee shops and hardware stores. The train station (commuter train to Boston and Providence) is in the next town, Mansfield. Having a car is essential, even though there is a commuter train from Mansfield (next town) to Boston. Norton is well situated to Boston, Cape Cod and Providence and other destinations on the shore. We have had house sitters from various parts of the US, Canada and Latin America and they really enjoyed the location. There is a former railroad track that is good for walking the dog, or nearby nature reserves and DCR properties (e.g., Borderland). The house itself is very cozy with a great screened-in porch in the back and an in-ground pool. The kitchen has an island, gas stove top and two ovens (yes, we are foodies and we cook!), as well as a dishwasher.
Comfort and Luxury
There is one functioning bike. The house is full of books, in 3 different languages.
Tourism and Leisure
Cape Cod and Boston are the main attractions; they are both about 40 miles away. It's a one-hour drive to Newport, RI, Southern New England's sailing haven and home of the mansions of the golden age. Providence is about 30 minutes away, with museums, a zoo and excellent restaurants (thanks to a culinary arts school in town). Brown University and RISD are both located in Providence. Boston and Cape Cod don't need any advertising! The commuter train from Mansfield takes about 45 minutes to downtown Boston.
