Bruce James

Greetings from James & Black! Myself (Bruce James) and my partner, Kimberly McCarter (Bella Black), are international touring musicians who have performed in seventeen countries spanning four continents. Kimberly is a US Navy veteran and a travel consultant as well. We have a passion for traveling and love immersing ourselves in new cultures and meeting new folks. We relocated from Austin, Texas, to the EU in 2011, working as musicians, rarely living in one place for longer than two weeks. In 2020 when the pandemic began, we settled in Boulder County, Colorado, successfully transitioning to remote work. We still perform at festivals and clubs but now, most of the time, we can take our work with us working remotely as voiceover talent and music producers.

We began using Airbnb on tour almost 10 years ago and have had the opportunity to stay in some amazing places all over the world, always seeking out the local spots away from the casual tourist locales. It’s not for everyone but we love it! We have lived in a beautiful villa just outside of Modena IT, a 17th century apartment in the Casco Viejo of San Sebastian, Basque Country, a fantastic historical flat in Plovdiv BG and a farmhouse in Belgium close to Brugge to just name a few of the stand outs. I feel like we have only scratched the surface – there are so many places in the world to explore!

I have always had animals in my life and wanted to be a veterinarian growing up. Somewhere along the way I realized that there was a lot of blood involved and decided it was not really for me. Up until we moved to Europe, we always had dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes. We are surrogates for some lovely Maine Coon sisters in Belgium and a couple of Maltipoos sisters in Houston. Unfortunately, due to our travel schedule we cannot have any furry kids of our own just yet but when, and if, we find our forever home that will be first on our list.

We have built quite a large family via music worldwide. For us, the music business has always been about building relationships built on mutual respect. We are truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel as we did. We always treat every home we live in as our own and leave it in better condition than when we arrived.
