Our two cats Schnurli and Marly are 19 and 15 years old. Schnurli (female 19) is deaf and dement. Therefore, she needs a lot of gestures to communicate and a lot of attention and love. She is "screaming" throughout the day, because she is dement and it can be quite loud because she is deaf...the "turn-off" button is love and cuddles. She receives 4 pills per day. Both are clingy and also Marly (male 15) loves to cuddle. He is a Persian cat and needs to get his fur brushed, and his eyes and ears cleaned every third day. Both cats have a food automatic machine and get small portions five times a day. Their water fountain needs to be cleaned and refilled once a week. Of course, the litter box has to be cleaned at least twice per day. Marly likes to play with his laser pointer and both enjoy the fresh air and sun on the balcony.

Our little 2 room apartment in the city center of Villach is inviting you to relax and enjoy the Alps Adriatic region between Austria, Italy and Slovenia. This area is perfect for hiking, climbing, swimming, or cycling. We are 20 minutes away from the Italian or Slovenian border. Carinthia is the state of lakes in Austria, where you may jump into crystal clear blue water. You will have the majority of your time to explore the area and enjoy your vacation in the mountains. Our two senior cats Schnurli and Marly are 15 and 19 years old. They need your attention and love especially in the morning and during the night. There is no issue with doing day trips and leaving the cats alone for a couple of hours. Our apartment on the third floor is accessible with an elevator. We live on 55m2 and have a 15m2 balcony. We have everything you need for a home workout, gravel bikes to go cycling, city bikes to stroll around, books in German and English to read, and a Smart TV to watch whatever, whenever you want. You step out of the front door of the apartment and are in the middle of Villach, where you may stroll around the local farmers market and do some shopping. Everything you need is within 2min to reach. We don't have a car. Bus and train connections are great. If you want to go up a mountain and need a car we can provide you with the ÖBB rail and drive application, where you can rent a car for a couple of hours do drive to different places. In our apartment we love to sit on our balcony and enjoy the morning sun with an amazing view onto the mountains (Karawanken in the Alps). We cycle to work and university. Of course, you may use our bikes as well. Our home is very clean and decorated in a boho kind of style. The priority are ALWAYS the cats. We're members of the Carinthian animal association and active in the local animal shelter, where we also got our senior cats from.

Villach, situated in southern Austria, is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and offers a plethora of activities for tourists throughout the year. Here's a glimpse of what the area has to offer: Woerthersee, Faaker See, Gerlitzen Alpe, Dreiländereck, Warmbad Therme, Villacher Alpine Road, Nockalmstraße, cultural events, local farmers markets, Dobratsch Nature Park, and Villach old town. The Alpe Adria bicycle path goes through Villach until the Adriatic Sea. A recommendation is Bled in Slovenia and Laghi di Fusine in Italy. Also, Venice is only 3 hours by Flixbus from Villach away. In winter you can go skiing, ice skating, and cross country skiing. In summer, you may go climbing, hiking, swimming, paragliding on Gerlitzen Alpe or stand up paddling, banana boat, or wakeboarding on Ossiacher See, Faaker See, Wörthersee, Weissensee and many more.

I wish we could leave a GOLD star—something to show that our hosts were truly a level above five stars! Everything about Ronja, her partner Benjamin, and their furry family was absolutely wonderful. I started the sit on my own, and later my husband joined me. Even while I was alone, I felt completely at ease caring for their two sweet cats. Benjamin made sure I was confident with everything before he left, and both he and Ronja responded quickly any time I reached out—even when it was just to share cute pictures of the cats! They provided a detailed list of care instructions for the cats, as well as fantastic suggestions for hikes and places to visit in the area. Benjamin even went above and beyond by giving me detailed directions for a cycling route to Italy, just across the border, so I could avoid busy roads—such a thoughtful gesture. Meeting Benjamin made me realize that TrustedHousesitters is about so much more than just finding a place to stay. He’s the kind of host you wish you had more time to hang out with. I’m sure Ronja is just as lovely, though we didn’t get to meet her as she was away during our stay. Their two cats are easy to care for, they are sweet and affectionate. Morning / evening care takes about 20 minutes—just enough time to feed them, check in, and make sure everyone is happy. This sit was such a joy and so worth it! The house itself is cozy and comfortable, with a great bed and so many thoughtful touches from our hosts that made us feel truly welcome. The views, walks, and bike paths starting right from the house are very great, and the surrounding nature is breathtaking. We already miss those lovely cats—and the beautiful area too! We highly recommend this sit and would absolutely love to return one day!

Ronja and Benny were amazing at communication before, during and after the stay. Although the cats were old and threw some spammers in the works, I was so happy to care for them and their home because of how much they gave back! I had cuddles and affection from the cats the whole time and very quickly after I arrived. The house and location was fantastic too. I could do lots of nice hikes, day trips to bordering countries and within Austria and the view from the balcony was stunning! We will be keeping in touch and I’m sure meeting again soon :)
