Rosey is a mid-size Podengo rescue who is 15 years old. She has learned English commands and is a sweet loving girl (and a drama queen). She needs to be on leash all the time outside the gate, because she does not understand cars at all. She is easy care and has learned how to be a cafe dog.
Banda is an outside during the day kitty and sticks to her secret garden and the walled patio of the house. She doesn't like being carried but loves cuddles, petting, helping with your computer work, and sleeping with you.
I want the animals to know they have not been left or abandoned. They are both rescues and Rosey was locked in a kennel for 3 years before I got her in February. 2021. They are fine left alone for a few hours during the day and evening, as long as Rosey gets her walks (she doesn't potty inside the walls.) You'll have lots of time to explore on your own. Rosey is known in town, and can go all over town with you as it is a super dog friendly community.

They are fed twice a day, water needs to be filled, Rosey gets two or more longer walks and one evening short step out to the green before bedtime. Banda just needs to be indoors by dark, and have her litterbox cleaned daily. I have a vet within walking distance and a great support system of animal lovers who know Rosey and Banda.
My plants watered as needed and house gate kept locked. That's really it. Otherwise, I have an expectation that you will fall in love with Tomar and have a great adventure.

My home is on a small thoroughly Portuguese street just below the Templar castle and convent. It is a short block to the formal castle gardens that lead to countless trails. Up the hill a bit you can visit the gardens inside the castle walls and the castle itself. 800 years ago my stone house was a stable serving a medical facility for the nobles. Converted into a house it is quirky, a bit primitive, but comfortable. I'm a minimalist, but I have a fully equipped kitchen and a TV with most the channels including Netflix. I have reliable high speed fiberoptic wifi for those who need/want that. The historic center of town is literally just around the corner with a bustling café culture (including a wonderful French bakery) but my neighborhood is quiet. There is a private walled patio with plants to water in summer, and a big balcony for sipping wine in the evening or a cup of coffee in the morning. I am very tidy but this is a stone house and stone sheds, the floors are often in need of sweeping. This is not traditional luxury, it is history. I am very tidy but this is a stone house and stone sheds, the floors are often in need of sweeping.

This is not traditional luxury, it is history. The house is considered very special but it is very simple and very old. If you want fancy and traditional fancy luxury my house is not the place for you. If you want soul, magic, history then welcome.

The house is three floors. Living is on first floor, main bed and bath on ground floor, guest room and half bath, and cat room on second floor. So stairs inside and outside.
Tomar is THE Templar City. cobblestones, river, parks, trails, shops, cafes, and very friendly people. There is kayaking on the river, art, music, and everything related to Templar Knights. I am asking for my sitter to arrive a day or so before I leave so I can introduce you to some people and give an orientation tour of the town including the mercado, and praca.

I expect I can visit the Templar castle and convent every week for the rest of my life and see something new each time. This city is a step back in time. The river, parks, festivals, I don't know how to describe this place. This link is a video of the place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM4nbY5aSRQ&t=5s

NOTE Please be vaccinated and a nonsmoker.

Caryl is a wonderful host: pick-up from the station, she showed me around town and was so generous to share her food and home-made pickles. All is very well-organised, with explanations of food, emergencies, tourism. Rosey is the tailwinking star of the neighborhood. She is such a sweetheart. Trauma can sometimes lead her into a barking mode but she is easily held and comforted. She loves chasing pigeons, rolling in freshly watered grass and charming every bypasser. Banda makes her appeareance like a diva-cat but than warms up and looooves to cuddle. The house is very beautiful, comfortable, central, practical. And has Netflix. Tomar is a sweet town, with nice cafés, friendly folks, a history of pelgrims and templars and 2 green spaces. Warmly recommend!

Lisbon, Portugal - Novembre 2021

Home-sitting for Caryl's dog and cat and looking after her cozy house was such a pleasure and a privilege. She gave me such a warm welcome and went to great lengths to make sure that I would be confortable during my stay and provided clear instructions on all relevant subjects. Furthermore she was always available and responsive when I texted news or questions. The dog is so attaching and follows you everywhere and the cat likes her independence but will show you sweet love as soon as she has chosen to adopt you. Caryl is blessed to live in a nice and comfortable house with terrasse and little grilling garden decorated with good taste and situated in centrally located Tomar. Thanks for this rare opportunity. I adored every minute of my stay in your house and I am looking forward to a continued friendship.
