We have two indoor/outdoor cats who like to come and go (through cat doors) as they please. We need a sitter who will respect our home and belongings and allow the cats to remain in their familiar environment. Must be a non-smoker. We need someone who can make a firm commitment and stick to it. We would consider either one person alone or a couple.

Logement

Located in small town in f eastern Newfoundland, Canada. The house is a storey-and-a-half, casually designed with lots of natural wood and nautical touches. We look out our windows to see the waters of Conception Bay. St. John's, a lively and colourful city of ~120,000 with an international airport, is 50 km. away. The house is bright and inviting, with a modern kitchen and comfortable dining room. Cable and internet are included. A solarium captures heat on sunny days and we eat many meals in this space. There is a tiny sauna. Spring in Newfoundland is cool. There will be rain, fog and wind, with the possibility of snow. Be warned -- April and May here are not like spring in most of North America. However, there is a chance that there may be icebergs in May. The house is located on the ocean, in an enclosed bay. We are at the end of a short laneway, overlooking the ocean. The town has a population of 2000, with a few small shops and restaurants, a pharmacy, library, golf course and marina. Supermarkets and other shopping are 30-50 km. away. …

There are plenty of places to walk or hike right in the town. Seabirds are numerous and sometimes there are whale sightings.

Bonnie and Jim have a lovely home that they are very proud of. It's sits right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean on a good piece of property that offers privacy and wildlife especially feather friends including bald eagles. The home is warm and cozy and they open it completely up to their sitters. The cats, Sally Ann and Finn are fun to get to know. Sally Ann starts out very shy for days, but when she does warm up to you, you fall in love with her and her independence. Finn is shy for only hours and then becomes your best friend. He was just six months as we sat for him and gave us lots of cuddles, love, laughter and it was great just watching him go from six months to the growing up stages six weeks later. The area, even in winter, was lovely to drive and see; we had great food in St. John's and loved cooking and baking "at home." We so hope that the next time Bonnie and Jim need sitters we are available, because even just the trip to and from Holyrood is breath-taking and exploring Newfoundland was the best. After 18 months on the road, we met some of the nicest people all over Newfoundland. Gracious and generous with time and help. Also, we felt very safe no matter where we traveled and we did from west to east and then back east to west.

Bonnie and Jim were warm and friendly hosts... Top notch in every respect. They made sure that our housesitting experience was as enjoyable as it could be. They introduced us to friends and community members, immediately making us feel right at home. Their home was comfortable and inviting and so indicative of their personalities and interests. And Sally Ann, the cat, quickly made us her own (as all cats do). All in all, the whole experience was wonderful. We would be very happy to housesit in Holyrood for Bonnie and Jim again.
