We are really looking for a couple or two friends since we think walking the dogs is really a two person job. We currently have 6 dogs as we are fostering an extra 2 for now: Mira is a rescue dog- she is a Bulgarian Scent hound or Gonche and had been shot in the leg and abandoned. We agreed to foster her after she was caught starving and in pain by the local dog rescue. She has been with us since May and will probably be staying! Tubby is a real character- he came to us in a small tub when only a few weeks old. He is a Bulgarian cross breed with some sort of hunting dog in him. Scrappy is a small corgi type who adopted us a couple of years ago when she came into the garden and had 3 pups. Fortunately we found homes for these! The two later additions are Ria and Nilla. Ria is the youngest, she only has one eye as she was badly treated as a pup. She is very loving and keen to play. Vanilla or Nilla for short was named by my granddaughter who is hopefully going …

Vanilla or Nilla for short was named by my granddaughter who is hopefully going to adopt her once we can get back to the UK. Finally Belcho is a lovely sheep dog who is still young and very playful. The dogs need feeding and walking at least once a day and we let them have the run of our camping field when we have no guests.
I
All the dogs except Mira and Belcho now sleep in the house but usually spend the day outside unless it is very cold or hot. Mira is still too scared to come inside so she sleeps in the barn and Belcho spends the nights at a neighbours place where he has a cosy kennel in the garden.
Our 8 cats also adopted us- 3 from the same litter They are all outside cats who get fed twice a day. They are all very friendly when they know you but are very independent and sometimes we don't see one or other for a few days. Only the youngest two come inside but they don't usually sleep inside. .It is very difficult to turn animals away when you are an animal lover and Bulgaria is a difficult place for local cats and dogs! We are hoping no more waifs and strays arrive!
You will need to be practical and capable of lighting a fire. Ideally you will drive so be able to use our car since the village is quite isolated.

We run a small eco guest house and campsite in the far south west of Bulgaria close to the famous town of Melnik and the spa town Sandanski.. We also rent out rooms through AirBNB. We are usually closed between October and the start of April and want to use this time to be able to travel a bit knowing that the house and animals are being well looked after by house sitters The house is a typical Bulgarian rural country house. It is heated by wood burners so you will need to be able to light a fire! There is hot water and good showers as well as everything else you might need . It is a comfortable house, we believe in the 4 R's- reduce, reclaim, reuse, recycle and have many quirky things as well as traditional style furniture. But we also have a modern well equipped kitchen and bathroom. Upstairs we have a self contained 2 bedroom apartment or two guest rooms with shared facilities depending on how we rent it out when open. You would be able to use this space whilst the dogs will continue to live downstairs. Depending on the time of year you …

If you are interested in a longer term sit we would also be interested in hearing from you. We are looking for couples or friends as we feel the place really needs two people to run smoothly. You would have use of a car for local trips.

We have a book exchange as well as many reference books for you to read.
The internet is quite good and it is possible to stream or download films
We also have a TV with Netflix and Bulgarian television but we ourselves rarely watch it.

Kromidovo is a peaceful village with about 150 mostly elderly residents. On the edge of the Pirin National park and surrounded by vineyards there is plenty of space for walking or cycling- we have bikes you can use. There is a small shop in the village for basics and the nearby towns of Sandanski and Petrich both have large supermarkets and everything else you might need. The village also has a couple of bars and a mineral water swimming pool but this is only open June- September. We also have a car that will be available for use if you have a clean licence and buses run past the village quite frequently.

Melnik is Bulgaria's smallest town and famous for its unusual sand stone rock pyramids as well as its traditional buildings and many excellent restaurants. Also close by Sandanski is a popular spa town with a wonderful park and museums. The region is famous for its wine and there are numerous winery's offering wine tours and tastings. There are also excellent mineral baths in the region with the great one at Rupite being only a 15 minute drive away. The Greek coast is only 2 hours drive away and Thessaloniki, Greece's second city is even closer.

We stayed 4 weeks in Sara and John's house with the 5 dogs and the 7 cats. It was our first house sitting experience, and we really enjoyed it. First, because we could spend some days with Sara and John before they left, so we could understand the routine better and the dogs were not stressed, being with people they don't know, suddenly. We also had fun with them! Second, all the animals are very nice. Even though they're a lot, they (98%% of the time) enjoy their life all together and are pretty independent. We walked them once a day in wonderful surroundings, fed them twice a day and petted them whenever they/we wanted. We also took care of the neighbour's dog, a young boy who lives on a chain in the garden. To make him exercise, Sara and John have started to walk him with their dogs, a week before we arrived. We of course agreed to do it to, and we could see that it was a big benefit for him, as he gets to run around and also to learn the dogs' pack's life. The cats are all independent (they're cats), but they love to cuddle. We loved taking care of them, the 4 house cats are very cute and with good and funny personalities. We will miss the animals, and the place there. I would definitely recommend staying at Sara and John's place!

Sara and John are super friendly hosts who felt like family from the first moment on. They were very flexible and also let us invite some friends to visit us (even in the end they did not come). The house is cozy and the garden is lovely and full of curious cats. We loved to hang out with the dogs and cats and observe their games and plots. Unfortunately one of the three dogs, Poppy, passed away of old age, it sure was a difficult time for all of us. Some nicer moments were for example when it snowed for the first time and the landscape suddenly got a white cape on top. We also enjoyed hugely the company of the previous sitters Cafren and Nick, and the merry come together curry feast when Sara and John returned home for a few days between journeys. The surrounding area is kind of under slow development (or decay) as young people tend to move away to cities. There is not much happening in the village, but you can always go to the near by thermal springs of Rupite, to chat with the friendly locals, and of course immerse yourself in those warm blessed waters! Overall it was a memorable experience to house-sit in Kromidovo. Thank you Sara and John for welcoming us to your little piece of paradise!
