He probably won’t sit on your lap, but Fenix is very social, he likes to hang out with humans and he believes we can understand him when he “speaks” with us! He likes to go outdoors many times a day, so he needs someone to open the door for him - especially in the winter months - and to make sure he is indoors at night. The housesitter will make sure Fenix has dry food to snack on as well as fresh water, and feed him his “paté”, ideally twice a day. Fenix does not mind being alone during the day but the housesitter should spend some time to play (... and “talk”!) with Fenix regularly. Fenix rarely uses his litterbox - only if he cannot get out for a long time because there is no one to open the door or if it’s really, really cold outside! We also have a few plants that need watering once in a while, but nothing complicated.

Bonjour, hello! Our beautiful loft is in the historic district of the Byward Market in the heart of Ottawa, capital of Canada. It is an open concept over two floors, one double bed, wood burning stove for the winter and central air conditioning in the summer, one parking spot in front. WiFi, no TV. Small terrace and BBQ. The house is on two floors, with the bedroom and main bathroom on the upper floor. The open concept means that our cat Fenix might join you at night (if he feels like it!) We have a wide selection of books in English and French, as well as two bikes (one for man, one for woman). In the winter, the fireplace is a great place to relax, while the small terrace is perfect for chilling out or having a BBQ in the summer. We live only a five minutes walk from the Byward Market and its thriving food and social scene, yet our house is on a quiet side street. Because of the open concept, the place is perfect for one person or a couple, but not suitable for families. It is 10 minutes walk to the National Arts Gallery, the Rideau Centre …

It is 10 minutes walk to the National Arts Gallery, the Rideau Centre (shopping centre and Rideau train station) and grocery stores open 24/7; 15 minutes to the Rideau Canal, National Arts Centre, Parliament building, University of Ottawa, etc. By car, 10 minutes from the Gatineau Park, connecting to hundreds of kilometres of forest trails, great for hiking, biking, skiing...

Tourisme et loisirs

Ottawa boasts many museums, several theatres offering programming in English or French, many cinemas (including a marvellous « repertoire » cinema within walking distance of our house). There are several festivals throughout the year. More specifically, Winterlude, the famous festival celebrating winter in Ottawa, will be underway. The world's longest skating rink, the Rideau Canal, should also be open to skaters until late February or early March.

Beautiful home in one of the best parts of Ottawa. Genevieve & Mateo gave very detailed and helpful instructions and left the house very well set up to receive a pet-sitter. I had people to call if any emergencies and lots of information to draw from so I felt very prepared in the home. Fenix is a lovely cat, fun to play with and not too demanding. I had a wonderful stay with him!
