Salamina

Responsibilities would be to love, feed and care for our three indoor/ outdoor cats, plus 3 more which live in the garden.. Mind the garden, and keep the house clean and secure.

These dates are firm, we have our tickets. These dates include 2 days before our departure in order to acquaint you with the area, the house and the pets. The departure date is one day after our return.

Ours is a modest, comfortable 2 bedroom (one is my studio/guest room), one bath home, situated half way up Black Mountain, and over looks the Bay of Salamina with the mountains of the Peloponnese in the background. This is a rural setting; beautiful, peaceful and quiet. We have television, Outside Grill and Fast Internet Service.
There are lots of cafes and tavernas to enjoy on Salamina, hiking, and biking. swimming is wonderful.
Salamina is not a tourist island, so you would have the opportunity for a real Greek Experience. On Thursdays, go to the fishing port and shop at a real Greek Lyeekee...Street Market...where you can buy everything from fruit to fish and more! The sea is close, clean and welcoming.
Athens and all that it has to offer is easily accessible....there are regularly scheduled ferries which take you to Piraeus, (hourly), the Port City to Athens (45 min ride) and from there a short walk to the Train Station where the underground zips you into Athens within less then 20 minutes. Total time to be in Athens Center, from the port of Paloukia, at Salamina is 1.5 hour. ( you must add the time to get to the port, by taxi or bus about 15 minutes.)

There is a charcoal grill on the balcony, an extensive garden with welcoming seating places, and a library with both English and Greek books available. We do have a DVD player, and s DVD collection. But the out of doors is the main feature of coming to our house. In Greece, life is lived as much out of doors as possible.

Ours is a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood, especially in the wintertime, when only 4 or 5 houses are occupied on our street. A short walk down the hill you will find a bakery, vegetable market, and super market, as well as a bus stop, and an easy place to hail a taxi. Salamina is not a tourist island, so English isn't widely spoken, but one can get by without it. Our garden is particularly lovely, with a small patio with bistro chairs placed under our large olive tree. Dinners on our balcony, overlooking the Bay of Salamina can be magical. Peaceful, picturesque, and quiet are the words I would give you to describe what your time would be at our house. We have 3 cats who live inside or out, our road and neighbourhood being of very little, almost no traffic, plus 3 more who have adopted our garden and balcony for their home. My cats, like most, are low maintenance, demanding food and love.

The main thing to do here is to enjoy the quiet and nature. Day trips into Pireaus, and Athens are easy and both have interesting and wonderful things to see and do.
