Lipsi

I had a wonderful three months taking care of Fiona’s house and cats in Lipsi. The house: The house is a villa on two levels and with lots of space inside and outside. It has been built recently and it is even more beautiful than in the pictures. Everything, that is also all the furniture, is completely new. The villa is at the top of a small hill close to the port. It has sea on three sides. Every single morning I had a “WOW” moment looking outside of the window and breathing the 100 shades of blue of the sea all around the house. Not to talk about the heart-warming sunsets! The cats: I fell in love with Precious and Jackson as soon as I met them. They are easy going, affectionate cats. Precious was still a kitty when I arrived and I had the joy to see her growing and getting stronger. She is blind, Fiona rescued her from the street. I loved to observe Precious moving around and I learned more from this kitty in three months than from many humans in years. The trustfully way how she discovers the world, how careful and mindful she deals with other cats (there are plenty of stray cats around the house), her self-awareness, her emotional autonomy and her kind soul thought me a lot. Jackson is a much bigger cat and he likes to spend lots of time strolling around the island. When he is in or around the house he literally “babysits” Precious, protecting her and playing with her. That was also a special experience. Both cats slept on my bed from the beginning. I loved to fill them with caresses and to play with them. Fiona has many little games for the cats. The owner: Fiona is a lively woman with a very big hearth. She is a citizen of the world, is sensitive, generous and easy going. I loved her warm and positive attitude already during our first videocall. She also has a polite way of dealing with people, as well as good manners. I point that out because, in my experience, this is something special and I love it! I spent three days with Fiona before she leaved the island. She was very caring and really made me feel that it was important for her, that I would feel snugly on the island: she showed me around, she introduced me to expats-friends living on Lipsi and to a wonderful neighbour. Fiona knew it would be my first Christmas alone after my mother’s death and it was important for her that I could have a caring community around me.
