We have two young tabby cats (2 years old). They do not leave the property and can go anywhere in the house and garden. At night they are given a treat and then confined to their own bedroom with access to the garden. They are playful and loving, but also quite independent.

We live in the northern suburbs of a large city, so there are all the amenities that any modern city has. Johannesburg has one of the largest urban forests in the world - meaning that there are many trees and parks. The closest park is the Zoo and Zoo Lake which is in easy walking distance. The house has a large swimming pool which is essential in the summer. Johannesburg has great weather, especially in the summer months- which last from around October to February. We are also famous for our afternoon summer thunderstorms which you get used to, and most often afterwards, the sun comes out again and the air is fresh and energised. Since South Africa does have a high crime rate, we are security conscious. We subscribe to an armed response security company that patrols the area and is easy to summon if needed. Johannesburg has much history - it was the focal point of the gold rush era in days gone by. Today it is a buzzing, cosmopolitan city with museums (The Apartheid Museum and the Mabaneng precinct is of great interest), art galleries, theatre, live music, shops, restaurants and coffee bars, as well as having many urban parks and some walking trails (Emmarentia Dam and Delta park are 10 minutes by car). We live in walking distance to the Zoo and the Zoo lake, also known as the Herman Epstein park, and are a 5 minute taxi ride to the Gautrain station (our version of the Metro) in Rosebank where there are large shopping malls. The Gautrain takes 4 minutes north to Sandton (a shopping mecca) and Pretoria, a nearby city, and 4 minutes south to the CBD; as well as East to OR Tambo international airport (15 minutes from Sandton).

Sharon and Delia were well prepared for my house-sit and were extremely helpful in setting me up for the sit. They provided very clear instructions. Their two cats, Amber and Charlie, were gentle, well behaved and easy to manage. The property was secure and despite a few initial mistakes, I was able to manage the security system without too many problems. Having access to a large swimming pool in a lovely garden setting was an added bonus, as well as there being a friendly housekeeper who came in several times a week to clean. I also appreciated that the shops were within walking distance. I was grateful that a bicycle was provided, even though I did not need to use it.
