It was such a pleasure to house sit for Meri and Burak, taking care of their silly, sweet cats, Spock and Blackie. It all started with Meri meeting us at the airport - a first for us, and such a warm welcome! She then proceeded to hand us fully-charged access cards for the buses, ferries and metros, so that we could explore the city. Burak organized SIM cards for our phones - not a simple job to set up in Turkey - so we were all set! They also put together a 4-page guide to the culture and landscape of Istanbul, recommending restaurants, giving language tips and more. They left us with guide books and language books and gave us a tour of their town before they left. We really felt overwhelmed by their welcome and became good friends right away. Burak and Meri live in a lovely, quiet flat in the middle of a fun, bustling neigbourhood (Moda) that's perfect for foodies like us. We loved the area so much that we rented our own apartment here - with their help, of course. They were always happy to help. Their flat was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, including the lovable Spock and Blackie. They were a pleasure to care for and gave us lots of cuddles. We truly learned the meaning of 'Turkish hospitality' from Meri and Burak. They deserve all the Nomador badges, but we were restricted to choosing three. We look forward to continuing our friendship with Meri and Burak. Hugs to both of them.
