Lipari

Housesitting with Luca and Carol on Lipari was like a dream! We spent two incredible months on this magical island, taking care of their two wonderful cats and their large property with really big garden full of many interesting plants. From day one, Luca and Carol made us feel truly welcome. They are soooo friendly, open minded, flexible and kind-hearted people. Before their departure, we had the chance to spend a week with them and it was amazing to see how much they care about their home and lovely cats. Throughout our stay, they were always available online, ready to help with even the smallest details. Luca also introduced us to the local community, which allowed us to experience working in the fields and meet a fantastic group of people who organize various social events. This was a wonderful, enriching and valuable experience for us! Our biggest joy came from their two adorable cats – Nyx and Gina. They completely stole our hearts! We had the opportunity to explore all of the Aeolian Islands and their highest peaks and even witness Stromboli erupting – what an unforgettable experience! We also enjoyed the local Carnevale Eoliano, which was another exciting cultural highlight. Their home is huge and you can see how much time and hard work Luca puts into their home! He lovingly takes care of the garden, collects rainwater, and uses eco-friendly products, which was truly inspiring. They also treated us to some delicious homemade goodies – like Luca’s amazing marmalade and Carol’s incredible Pão de queijo. In return, I baked apple and orange strudel, which gave us a chance to share and learn from each other’s culinary traditions. Leaving this place was truly hard for us. The breathtaking view of Vulcano and Etna, the peaceful atmosphere, many fruit trees and the chance to connect ourselves with nature while still having a bus stop right outside – all of this made this housesitting an absolutely unique experience! We personally loved walking everywhere, but for someone the 3 km and 250 m elevation to Lipari town might be more challenging. We are so grateful to Luca and Carol for trusting us with their home and for giving us the chance to spend two unforgettable months on Lipari! This place and experience will stay with us forever!
