I am a Swedish ex-expat who has lived in 11 countries, a world traveler who has visited over 120 countries, and a full-time solo traveler since January 2015, looking for my paradise.
In my professional background, I am a semi-retired IT professional who has transitioned into a full-time photographer, specializing in night cityscapes. I work from home, which means your pets will have company most of the time. Additionally, I am an occasional blogger, although currently experiencing writer's block (you can find my blog at https://onewaytickettoparadise.com/).
I am a dependable, resourceful, creative, curious, proactive, true problem solver, flexible, and ready to take on any challenge pet lover.
I joined Trusted House Sitter in November 2021 and have successfully completed almost 40 sits so far, all with 5-star reviews. These sits have taken place in various locations, including NYC, Ecuador, Mexico, Dubai, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, and many European countries.
My approach to befriending pets is to give them space and time, allowing them to come to me rather than imposing myself on them. During our first encounter, I typically ignore them, which piques their curiosity and makes me an object of interest. As a result, they come out from their hiding places to take a closer look (or rather sniff) and initiate the first move towards forming a bond. This approach works like magic every single time.
I also enjoy talking to pets and involving them in my activities, both at home and outside. I always greet them with a 'hello' in the morning and bid them 'good night' at night. I converse with them as I would with any other living being, and they love to engage in what feels like real conversations between friends. They listen, and they comment. I also love involving them in whatever I do by letting them watch and sniff while I go about my daily routine.
Whenever possible, I like to meet the pets before the sit begins. Even if they hide, especially in the case of cats, they can still sense my presence, hear my voice, and know that I am a friend since you allowed me into their territory. The next time I visit and you're not there, especially during blind handovers, I won't be a scary stranger entering their domain but a familiar voice, a friend, they recognize.
If feasible, I also prefer to arrive a day earlier and extend my stay by a day to ensure a smooth transition and a gentle handover, which is greatly appreciated by the pets.
On a personal note, I am thrilled and proud that most pets see me as their friend from the very first encounter. In fact, some hosts have affectionately nicknamed me "Pet Magnet" (which makes me blush with happiness).
