Needs and animals

Vegetable patch | 1 Cat

Primarily, we need someone to look after our cat Angus. Angus is a Norwegian Forest cat and is the furriest cuddliest cat I've ever met. He is easy going and normally falls in love with all of his cat sitters. He is easy to care for and comes and goes as he wants.

We also have some outdoor plants to water, and would generally like the house to be kept clean and tidy while we're away.

House

Our house is in a green and peaceful area on the western edge of Oslo. As well as being next to a beautiful wood full of raspberry plants, it has direct access to trails that lead into a mountain- nature reserve area (Kolsåstoppen). There is a rock climbing area immediately adjacent to our neighbourhood. One wonderful feature of our area is that there is -no- through traffic. Cars (while they can be driven to the house for loading and unloading) are parked at the end of the street. Children play freely in the roads and there are traffic free bike paths and trails all over the place, including to at least three playgrounds. This is an amazing place to be a child! In addition to the nature reserve, ten minutes by bike takes you to the Bærums Verk craft village, with cafes, artisan shops and the beginning of an almost limitless open space for running, cycling and skiing. Our house is 15 minutes walk to the subway/t-bahn (Kolsås) or five minutes to the bus (åsbraten). We have a shed of bicycles (including an electric cargo bike) to make that quicker! We are outdoor sports people, and so we have numerous bikes and a shed full of climbing, camping, and hiking stuff). Contact us to discuss which ones we should leave here!). We've lots of guidebooks and maps and 8-year-old appropriate toys.

Tourism and Leisure

Oslo js a world class city, with a unique combination of nature, clean living. sparkling seaside and cosmopolitan attractions, For us (we are nature loving climate scientists) the combination of nature, trails. car free living, and sustainable values are its major attractions, I won’t summarise the cultural highlights of Oslo, as a basic internet search would be much more effective, but suffice to say that the TBahn, which solidly runs every 15 minutes until 1am, can allow access to all of this (including amazing days out on the ferry system to the islands in the fjord!) Then unwind in green and peaceful Lokenhavna! (our phenomenally low traffic neighbourhood…)

Our staying at Rosie´s house in Sandvika was really amazing experience and time with Angus was great. He is very easy-going and cuddly cat and our children loved him from the first moment. We couldn´t meet Rosie and her family before start of the house-sitting but we got all the instructions which were very clear and the communication with her was always fast. We really liked the surrounding of the house which was right next to the forest, so we enjoyed walkings in forest, picking blueberries and viewpoints from the top of the rocks. At the end we finally met Rosie with Ben and their son Sam. They are really nice family and we enjoyed being in their company.
