Vegetable patch | 1 Cat

We share our home with a very friendly and affectionate tabby cat called Heimdall. He was born around October 2023 and found his way to us as a stray (most likely abandoned) when he was approximately six months old. Since then, he has become a much-loved member of the family.

Heimdall is an outdoor cat and enjoys exploring the neighbourhood during the day, usually coming and going as he pleases. At night, however, we keep him indoors, so the cat flap needs to be opened in the morning and closed again in the evening. He also wears a GPS tracker for safety, which needs charging ideally every day though it will probably last for least two days.

He is extremely social and loves spending time with people. In the evenings, he usually relaxes with us in the living room before following us to bed. One of his favourite routines is being brushed before bedtime, and he absolutely loves cuddling up at night.

Heimdall can comfortably be left alone during the day and occasionally overnight, but ideally not for more than one night at a time.

Additional information about these dates

I have to leave early on the 7th and will be back late on the 11th, so staying for another day before and/or after the above dates would be possible but not necessary. It might make the handover easier though.

House

We live in a lovely first-floor apartment in a house shared with three other households. As the apartment is on the first floor, there are a few steps leading up to the entrance. At the back of the apartment, a private terrace with stairs leads down to the communal garden. The other residents in the house are very friendly, welcoming and always happy to help if needed.

The house is located in Mannheim-Friedrichsfeld, a quiet and well-connected neighbourhood conveniently located between the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg. The neighbourhood itself is quiet, green and relaxed, with supermarkets, bakeries, cafés and restaurants all within easy reach. There is a main street with some bakeries, cafés and a small supermarket as well as some larger shopping centres further away, approx. 20-30 minutes walking or 5 miniutes by bus.

Public transport connections are excellent: one train station (approx. 7 minutes’ walk away) serves east–west routes, while another station (approx. 12 minutes’ walk away) serves north–south connections. From both stations, there are frequent links to major cities such as Mannheim, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Mainz and Frankfurt, as well as many charming smaller towns throughout the region.

I spent a wonderful ten day's with Heimdall. Debbie was a friendly host who gave me all the necessary information and made sure that I had a great stay in the Rotherham/Sheffield area. She and Raphael were very flexible concerning my arrival and departure dates. Heimdall himself is a very affectionate, communicative cat that it was a genuine joy to spend time with! The house is well furnished and positioned ideally close to Meadowhall train station and shopping centre. The garden was nice and semi-wild and the plants easy to water. Overall, I highly recommend Heimdall, Debbie and Raphael and would most definitely stay again to look after Heimdall himself, who I miss already!
