Needs and animals

1 Cat

I have 1 year old cat! Here name is nixta (nee-k-ta) which means night in greek. She is in full play mode these days - loves to play fetch with her sparkly pompoms, hide and seek with people, and just general curiosity for everything around her. She is a very loving and cuddly girl, so she will follow you everywhere you go and prefers to sleep with you (although if thats not comfortable with you, just close the door)! She is very easy to maintain as she if free feeding right now (just keep her food and water full at all times) and the litter box is scooped daily (i use tofu litter so you can just flush it down the toilet). She is fine to be on the balcony :) although she only usually goes there to use her litter box.

Other than that, I have a few indoor plants that might need watering towards the end of your stay!

House

My apartment is a late mid century building, a classic Athenian build. It is on the second floor with a typical balcony - it gets sunlight all day long and the apartment is very bright in the living room and bedroom! There is a retractable awning if its too much sun and blackout shutters for when you sleep. My place is decorated eclectically with art, plants, and objects from around the world. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is also a washing machine! The bedroom and living room both have A/C units and the couch pulls out into a double bed :)

Tourism and Leisure

The apartment is right in the heart of the Kypseli neighbourhood, which is bustling with families, artists, and young folks. There are several different trendy cafes/restaurants/bars all within a few minutes walk, but also classic Athenian establishments (a perfect blend of old and new). Being mostly a residential area, it is quieter at night so sleeping is not an issue! I have a supermarket across the street making groceries very accessible and on Thursdays there is a great street farmers market.

About a 10 minute walk away is a large park, great for taking a stroll or going for a run! On the other side of the park, about a 30 minute walk, is the infamous neighbourhood of Exarcheia (the best bars and restaurants in the city - a great nightlife hub). You can get to the centre of Athens on foot in 45 minutes (Acropolis etc.) or of course use transit system! There are plenty of busses routes from Kypseli to all over Athens, and there are different metro stops about a 15-20 minute walk from the apartment.

I had a wonderful stay at Niki’s place. The apartment is very clean, tidy and beautifully decorated, with wonderful wooden floors and a big balcony. I felt immediately comfortable and truly welcomed. Nixta is a lovely kitty and I felt in love with her! She was affectionate from the very first minute: she jumped straight onto my lap, enjoyed being petted and kissed. And I had so much fun playing hide and seek with her in the evenings! During the day I worked without any issues because the Wi-Fi is excellent. The location is great: just a 15-minute walk to the next metro station or 4 minutes to the next bus stop. It is also very easy to reach the center (Acropolis) on foot. Nicki was warm, friendly, and attentive in all communication. I truly enjoyed my time here and would be very happy to come back!

Such a wonderful stay! The apartment was beautiful, cozy and full of good energy. Nicki was super kind, explained everything clearly and shared tons of great recommendations that made the experience even better. And Nixta, absolutely adorable! Playful, loving and the sweetest little companion. It was my first stay and couldn’t have been a better start!

Staying at Nicki's place was my first housesit and I had such a great time! Nicki was absolutely lovely and gave me really detailed instructions and informations about her place, recommended a lot of great places and activities in or around Athens and was always reachable if necessary. It was a pleasure to take care of Nychta! She warmed up to me really quickly and was great company during my two weeks stay. I'm so thankful that Nicki gave me the opportunity to explore Athens this way and if ever needed I would gladly come again and take care of lovely Nychta. :)
