Needs and animals

2 Dogs | 1 Fish | 1 Reptile

We have two dogs: a 6-year-old German Shepherd mix named Nina and an 8-year-old sled dog named Botz. Both dogs were rescued from the animal shelter.

Nina is very shy around new people but warms up once she gets to know them. She loves her walks and thrives in quiet environments because loud noises can make her nervous.

We rescued Botz because his previous owner had a house fire. He's built like a greyhound with the coloring of a husky. He enjoys relaxing on the couch and would rather skip the long walks that Nina loves. Botz is very food-motivated and will do anything for a treat. Both dogs are pretty chill.

My classroom pets are also at the house during long vacations and summer break. They include a bearded dragon and fish.

Dogs are fed twice a day. Botz receives his medication with a small dab of peanut butter mixed into his dog food. The bearded dragon is hand fed every other day or so which includes small pieces of apple, carrots, other vegetables, and superworms. The fish are fed every day as well. We would appreciate Nina to be walked everyday for about 1/2 hour or longer.

Our dogs' usual routine follows: In the morning, they get up and go outside (no leashes required). After they come back in, they are fed breakfast. Before you leave for the day, we ask that you let them out one more time.

We typically arrive home from work between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. When we get home, Nina goes for her daily walk, and then both dogs are fed dinner. Throughout the evening, we let them outside a few more times before bedtime.

We love watching the birds (and other critters) that come to our deck. We'd appreciate you keeping the bird feeder stocked with sunflower seeds and changing the water from the bird bath every couple of days.

Additional information about these dates

We would prefer that you arrive a little earlier, especially if you're traveling from a distance. It's also perfectly fine with us if you'd like to stay a little later. I enjoy hosting and have many positive reviews on Couchsurfing under Jenn and Tom. If you have used TrustedHousesitters, we also have several reviews from previous sitters.

House

We live outside of Fairbanks, about 20 minutes from town. On clear days, we have mountain views in the distance. We have miles of trails right outside our door, and we love using them. We feed the birds, so our deck is visited by woodpeckers, chickadees, redpolls, and squirrels, as well as flying squirrels that come to feed in the evenings.

Tourism and Leisure

Fairbanks is a small city in the heart of interior Alaska. It is surrounded by woods, rivers, and lots of wide open spaces of wilderness. The community is large enough so you can get what you need but small enough that you often run into people you know. Right now summer brings the midnight sun and warm temperatures.
