We have three cats: an older black male, Gherkin, and two young brothers, all neutered males. While we are away they must stay in the house, and it is easy to confine him to our ground-floor apartment while you can use the rest of this large house. They need feeding in the morning and evening, given water, and emptying litter trays. They are wary of strangers but will be content to be in their normal environment. We prefer two people to look after them as, ideally, they should eat separately.
In hot weather, garden tubs or trays of seedlings may need watering. Depending on the season, it might be necessary to water something in the vegetable garden once, and the house plants once.

The older male, Gherkin should eat separately, otherwise the younger Topsy will eat fast and then steal his food.

Additional information about these dates

We leave for a ferry to the UK at 17hr on the 11th, and return early in the morning on the 19th. If you can arrive by lunchtime on the 11th, we will have time to show you the cats, the house and the town. If you cannot arrive until later in the day we suggest you arrive late on the 10th so you (and the cats) can have a relaxed introduction before we leave.

We have a restored old farmhouse away from main roads, with three ensuite guest bedrooms, in addition to our own apartment. There is private parking. There is a large sitting room/dining room/bar, and a kitchen-diner. The mezzanine has table tennis and table football. For heating we have log fires and electric radiators. For entertainment we have many English language books and DVDs, music CDs, Wifi, and UK and French TV. The garden is enclosed and managed for biodiversity, with a lawn, large trees, some tall grass, flower borders, fruit trees and a pond. The front garden has a patio overlooking flowers, and an area for outdoor eating.

Our tiny hamlet, La Dieuloire, is quiet, but only a 20 minute walk to either the village of Tesse-la-Madeleine (doctor, pharmacy, bakery, mini-market etc.) or to the holiday, Belle Epoch town of Bagnoles de l'Orne (with many shops, restaurants, a lake, outdoor pool in summer, woodlands, casino and cinema). It is surrounded by woodlands with planned trails. The Normandy coast is 90 minutes drive, but only 7km away is a lake beach (Ferté Plage) with a café, etc. There are several chateaux within an easy driving distance. One km away is the 17c Chateau de Couterne, and you can walk around its surrounding woodlands. Bagnoles has a 19c chateau
with parkland, woodland and cliffs, a quarter of Belle Epoch mansions, and an Art Nouveau church. The recently renovated Gare area is used for markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and for events and exhibitions. Supermarkets are 6km. You could have a quiet week in the garden, walking from the house or cycling using our bikes in the woodlands or on cycle tracks. Or you could enjoy the tourist attractions of Bagnoles and southern Normandy/northern Mayenne, with woodlands, lakes, and chateaux.

Julia et Stephen sont des personnes charmantes. Ils nous ont confié leur maison en nous considérant comme des proches. La météo n'ayant pas été favorable, nous avons pu profité agréablement de cette immense propriété très agréable, de la compagnie de Gherkin, leur petit chat adorable et amusant. Nous avons grandement apprécié ce séjour.

Je suis vraiment très content de mon séjour Chez Julia et Stephen.Tout de suis j'ai été mis à l'aise et pendant que Julia préparais un délicieux repas d'accueil Stephen me faisait visiter la Ville de Bagnole de l'Orne ,me montrant ce qu'il fallait connaitre.Ainsi ,j'ai eu des repères rapidement et gagné du temps par la suite.Pour le logement,j'ai également eu toutes les informations nécessaires.Pour le Chat,Gherkin,et très sympathique ,beaucoup de recommandations,si bien que l'on s'est bien entendu tous les 2 Je recommande vivement un séjour dans la maison de Julia et Stephen, situé dans une belle région de Normandie! Stephen et Julia forment un couple très aimable et nous ont bien acceuilli. Nous étions ravis de faire leur connaissance. Leur maison a tout ce qu'il faut pour un séjour très agréable, le jardin est superbe. Le chat Gherkin est facile à vivre et gentil.
