Needs and animals

Many plants | 1 Dog | 4 Cats

I have two Siamese cats (ages 10 and 13 yrs), Scottish Straight (6 yrs) and an American Shorthair Exotic (7 yr) as well as a pure-bred 6-year old German Shepherd. The cats and dog get along fine!

My cats like interaction and they are very social. They will often keep you company.
My dog likes to be around the hub of the house - wherever people are, he is there. If he is not traveling with me, he will need two walks a day. He is not often keen on other dogs. He is strong at 40 kilos so someone with solid strength is best. He is a trained (retired) show dog who has won competition awards (certified protection, obedience, tracking skills IGP1). He needs a pet-sitter who understands big breeds - especially protection dogs.

I also have plants on the deck and garden that will need watering twice a week (or more, depending on the season).

Pet care is straight forward with two feedings a day, fresh water twice a day, clean litter box 2-3x/day for cats, at least two long walks for my dog.

House

I live in a “tiny house” A-frame cabin on stilts (2.5 meters from the ground with stair only access). It is a two-bedroom unit by the beach. The TV room doubles as the guest bedroom with a queen sofa bed while the master bedroom is on the open loft area. There is a full bathroom in the cabin with a service bathroom downstairs in the washer-dryer area. I have a fully stocked kitchen (no oven, however). The cabin boasts a large, partially roofed wrap-around deck with outdoor furniture.

Besides the plants on the deck, there is also a garden below. With just a 200-meter walk, you’ll be on the beach.

Tourism and Leisure

Chicxulub Puerto is a vibrant coastal destination characterized by its proximity to beautiful beaches and very laid-back atmosphere. Guests appreciate the town's charm, often noting its small size and locally oriented vibe, making it feel like an authentic Mexican experience. Many visitors enjoy a short walking access to the beach and the fresh seafood and local eateries available nearby in the town at approx. 2KM. Puerto Progreso’s Malecón (closest beach to Merida and very popular with locals) is 7KM away offering additional dining and entertainment options. Visitors are drawn to Chicxulub’s peaceful surroundings, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and family gatherings, especially near the sea. Check out its prehistoric past: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/asteroid-that-ended-the-dinosaurs-came-from-beyond-jupiter-study-finds-180984924/?itm_source=related-content&itm_medium=parsely-api The Capital and the State have a lot to offer with museums, Mayan archeological sites (Uxmal 84 km south of Mérida, Chichén Itzá 120 km east of Mérida, and more), artisan crafts, festivals, evening bike rides, good restaurants everywhere including those outside the “Gastronomic Corridor” plus plenty of cenotes to explore and swim. Old Haciendas are open to the public for tours, scenic pictures, and fine dining, too. Practically, one could go out every day/night for the entire summer and not be bored. The centro histórico …

The centro histórico is 40 km away. DiDi & Uber are widely used here and are reasonable. If you want to rent a car, you will be required to get full coverage insurance - sometimes equaling the price as the car itself!
Airport is Merida International Airport (MID) and it is 8km from the Historic Center (with airport shuttle buses for approx $3 USD cash in MXN only) and 55KM from Chicxulub Puerto which roughly equates to one hour’s drive to the airport (high commute time may be almost 1.5 hrs).

Patricia is one of the warmest, kindest people we have met. Within a couple of days, she felt like our Mexican aunty. She showed us around & shared so much about life in the Dominican Republic. She’s one of those people you instantly feel comfortable with, and we missed her as soon as she left. Her furry family were all such characters. Nilo, the dog, is full of energy, very protective, and always wanted to be close by. Pippo, the Siamese boss of the house, is completely loyal to Patricia, but when he decided to come over for a bit of affection it felt like a real privilege. Kiku was my little cuddle shadow, always greeting us and curling up beside us. Pancito started off shy but soon became the sweetest kitchen companion. And Maxi… she completely fell in love with me, and of course I fell for her too. They were all so easy to care for, and each had their own way of making us smile every day. The house was beyond comfortable, the area was amazing and super safe. Saying goodbye after a month was much harder than I expected.

What a wonderful sit in Patricia’s beautiful apartment in a very nice area of Santo Domingo. Patricia welcomed us the night before the sit and was very helpful in showing us around and giving us tips before she left. The highlight of course was spending time with 4 amazing cats, Pippo, Maxi, Niku and Panchito. They made our stay so memorable with their different personalities and need for affection, particularly Maxi and Niku who would meow at the drop of a hat. We miss them and we know we will never forget them. Also visiting Santo Domingo with its wealth of history , museums and great restaurants was the icing on the cake. Thank you Patricia and we hope to meet again! Kim and Rachid

It was an absolute pleasure to meet Patricia and her wonderful furry family! She is such an incredible person—warm, friendly, and full of strength—and I have to say, I finally found my Mexican aunt! 😃 Nilo, the purest breed German Shepherd, is an absolute sweetheart—loyal, easygoing, and always by your side. Wherever you go, he’ll follow, always accompanied by his best friend Pippo, the Siamese "gangster" cat. Honestly, I’m not even sure Pippo is a cat—he’s such a unique creature! Watching the two of them hanging out together was endlessly entertaining. My best work companion was Kiku, who would sit and stare at me with her hypnotic eyes, as if she were trying to decode the secrets of my soul. At night, she’d curl up on my chest, keeping watch over my heartbeat—just in case it skipped a beat during an intense action scene on Patricia’s epic home cinema setup, complete with a big plasma TV, amazing audio, and, of course, homemade popcorn. Then there’s Panchito, the most innocent-looking cat of the group—nicknamed by me "the mysterious unicorn" because he’d appear only for fleeting moments. A true king, he preferred to enjoy Patricia’s king-sized bed all to himself, far away from the rest of us. But don’t be fooled by his quiet demeanor—he’s the best hunter and a legendary feline musician. The moment he spotted a lizard, he’d unleash a hunting battle hymn, summoning all the cats to join him. You’d be truly amazed by his voice! And Maxi, the second Siamese cat? She’s a chatterbox and a secret catnip addict! You’d always find her first because she’d take the best seat in the house—right at the conference table, like she was leading an important meeting. 😂 Patricia’s entire pet family is easygoing, playful, and full of love. They adore cuddles and are a joy to take care of. Leaving them after a month was truly heartbreaking. I wholeheartedly recommend this stay, especially for remote workers who want a peaceful environment, great restaurants nearby, and the constant company of affectionate animals. Thank you, Patricia, for your trust and for giving me the opportunity to take care of your beautiful pet family! ❤️
