1 Dog
Jou is a 12ish year old, pretty chill hunting breed. We got him from a shelter in February. He likes being near people but feels safest in and on his beds (scattered throughout the house) or on the couch. He only barks when he plays — for the first two weeks we thought maybe he was mute! But he found his voice with other dogs and has really come out of his shell. Friendly with all dogs and all people.
We think this is his first time in a city, and indoors. And we KNOW it was his first time with stairs because I had to carry him up and down for the first two weeks :) but he’s good now!
Walk schedule at the moment:
* First thing after waking up. 7/8h a good 30+ min walk
* 12/13h a quick 15-30 mins. Earlier side of he drinks a lot on the walk or after
* 17/18h afternoon quick 15-30
* 22-24h another 15-30 min walk, but if there's time I like to give him a nice long 30+ min walk at night too. Gracia is fun to walk around at night

We recently started taking him on longer walks -- 1-2 hours, 5km+ throughout the city, into some parks, stopping at plazas for drinks and snacks. He'll want you to share snacks with him, and that's ok with us if you do. It's a quick way to win his heart :) He's food motivated!
He likes to play just after a walk. He gets the zoomies in the lounge and then up in the kitchen and living room.
We give him half a bowl of food two times a day (or a third of a bowl 3 times a day), usually morning and evening around dinner. He eats whenever he wants to but is more inclined to eat when we’re also eating or also in the kitchen with him.
He doesn't love people coming into his space; but if you're nearby and let him come to you, he usually does. Like if he's on the sofa or if he's on his bed and you go in for a hug, it makes him anxious and then next time he's afraid you'll do it again and that makes him more anxious! I'm probably making it sound worse than it is. You can very comfortably sit with him on the couch or on the floor and he'll lay pressed against you. You can pet him and enjoy him. He just doesn't like you getting super close face to face :)
We need someone who is generally around and willing to spend time with him. We leave him for hours at a time and he’s fine but the one time we went away for the weekend and we had someone come by a few times per day to walk him and then leave, by the third day he had a panic attack and that took a few weeks to get over. So we really need someone who will be around most of the time. Not all of the time though! We want you to enjoy Barcelona :)
He's an older dog. He's had a few accidents if he drinks too much and doesn't get let outside in time. He doesn't really know how to tell people he has to go outside (he was an outside dog we think so this is his first time being in a home). If he seems extra anxious, it could that he's bursting and needs a pee! We have taken to doing quick "street pees" to him, letting him outside just in front of our house on the street for a quick pee and then bringing him back in.
You can use the doggie daycare in town for dropping him off for a half a day or a full day at a time. Leaving him there overnight is a possibility; we'd just have to work it out with the daycare place first.
Barcelona is strict on taking a water bottle with you when you walk a dog. Please make sure to take it with you when you walk him and give a good squirt, even if it's just a quick "street pee" session.
