My lovely second home is in a small, very quiet medieval village in the south of France. The house is typical of this village and is tall and thin, which means A LOT of stairs. As we are in the Alps, the surrounding terrain is quite rough and hilly. This is unfortunately not a good sit for people with mobility problems or with children.
The house is very well equipped and is comfortably but not lavishly furnished. Although the house has many rooms, sitters have access to a comfortable living room, dining room, very well equipped kitchen and pantry with dishwasher and washing machine. There is a toilet and sink on that level. There is WiFi and there are DVD players and TVs. Sitters have access to a comfortable double bedroom with full bathroom on the third floor with glorious mountain and valley views. The floor with my bedrooms and bathroom is not accessible to sitters. There is a roof terrace with a gas BBQ. Like 99.9% of houses in this area, I don’t have air conditioning, so we shut the shutters and the windows and keep the lighting low.

I have hundreds of movies and a DVD player. This is a basic but very cosy and comfortable house.
The dining room has French doors with a Juliette balcony so you can watch the world walk by! Eating outside without being outside!
I am having to go away at very short notice for work in the UK on a contract.
The village is very very quiet. If you need nightlife and a busy lifestyle, this not the sit for you! We sell peace and quiet here! The house is tall and thin but deceptively spacious. I tend to live on the first floor where the kitchen is. It’s right in the middle of village life. There is an organic fruit and vegetable shop literally on my doorstep. This is the hub for all local gossip, so if I want to know about something, I just look down from my dining room balcony for an update! The village, though very small, seems to expand in the summer, with various activities. A jazz concert and our famous medieval festival are being held in July. It is possible to rent medieval costumes to blend in! . We have all the basic amenities here: cash machine, post office, a very good GP, pharmacy, two well-stocked little supermarkets, a newsagent a bakery and several bars and restaurants. There is a tiny market on Friday mornings. There are larger grocery stores in neighbouring villages. As this is farm country, there are masses of fruit and vegetable opportunities.
I rent a car while I’m here, as I don’t own one. It is possible to be here without a car but if you wanted to take the dogs and explore other areas, you might want to consider that option as public transport (bus, train) is very spotty here.
Then there are the Alps! There are miles of walking trails if that suits your lifestyle! There is a lovely park ( no dogs allowed!) and the River Var runs past the village, so there is river rafting available. There is a campground 1 km walk away where you can pay a fee to swim in their lake.

Tourism and Leisure
If you love rustic living, you will love Entrevaux. It is an authentic Provençal village with as many outdoor activities as you can fit in! If you make the effort to speak even a little French, people will be delighted! My dogs are very well known in the village and many people stop for a chat and a cuddle.
Entrevaux is a medieval walled village dating back to 1532 is full of interesting history with many nooks and crannies. The cathedral is very grand. If you are feeling energetic, you can walk to the citadel, the old fortification that was meant to keep the Italians out in the mid-1500s. If you are a trail walker or water rafting enthusiast, this is the place for you! The mountains call out for walkers! We have rafting facilities nearby. We specialise in peace and quiet!
There is going to be a jazz festival and our famous medieval festival will be held at the end of July. The notice board by the tourist information office tells everyone what social activitues are going on.

Two former sitters have loved it so much, they have moved here! Unfortunately, as they both work full time, they can’t do the sit but are beacons of knowledge about my house and dogs!
