Needs and animals

1 Dog | 1 Cat

We have a four-year-old Labrador/St. Bernard mix and a seven-month-old Bengal cat. Both are perfectly house-trained. The cat is sweet and cuddly but otherwise a fairly typically independent cat. The dog is also sweet, a bit nervous around new people but she habituates within a few hours. Because of the size of the dog, I typically walk her about 45 minutes-1 hour per day. Otherwise, she enjoys company but is fairly low-maintenance. We have a Litter Robot so there is very little litterbox maintenance for the cat. Neither animal has special health needs.

House

Renovated winery in an ultra-modern/industrial style, semi-troglodytic with 2 caves in a touristic village in the heart of the Loire Valley with its castles, vineyards, and wineries.

We have a piano, bicycles, and weightlifting equipment, along with an American-style kitchen (very large by French standards) with many appliances, perfect for avid cooks. There is a massage chair and the bed in the master bedroom is heated; the master bath features a walk-in shower. There are two wineries within 100m of the house.

We live in a cozy suburban neighborhood surrounded by vineyards, five minutes by car from the center of the village and 10 minutes by car from Tours. The neighborhood is friendly but quiet. There are many excellent restaurants nearby and the neighborhood is part of a historic walking tour, so it is touristic in the summer but less so during the winter weather. There is a bicycle path about 200m away, directly on the Loire River, and bicycles are available for the house-sitter. A car is helpful but not strictly necessary. There is a housekeeper who generally comes 3x/week.

Tourism and Leisure

There are many castles just a short drive away. There are half a dozen touristic wine caves within walking/bicycling distance. There are many charming old churches, a beautiful cathedral in Tours, and a Roman-era chapel in the neighborhood. The Tours era has too many wonderful restaurants to count. The bike path takes you to Tours, or you can go to Montlouis and Amboise and beyond--or cycle through the vineyards. Tours itself is a very arts-oriented city and there is lots of live music and theater all year round.
