Needs and animals

2 Cats | 1 Farm animal

We have 2 cats: an 8-year-old tortoiseshell, and a 15-year-old longhaired, both very affectionate and calm. Everyone is fed once a day, in the evening.

We also have seven hens whose eggs must be collected daily. Their coop has an automatic door and they are very friendly and curious and love treats.

We only expect house sitters to care for the animals and water the plants when needed. Our home is very relaxing and we hope that anyone who stays here can simply enjoy their time here.

Additional information about these dates

Our dates are not firm, as we have not purchased tickets yet, but we know that we will be visiting family in the UK for much of this time. We love for guests to come a day or so early so that we can go through our routines and get to know one another.

House

Our 20th century home is a bit rough around the edges, but is located in a very calm and quiet setting, surrounded by pastures and agriculture. We have many fruit trees, a small garden, and are a ten-minute drive from two different villages. We love music and have a large collection of CDs, as well as a digital music collection. While our home is quite modest, the kitchen is large and light-filled and our guests always leave deeply refreshed thanks to the fresh air and peacefulness of our environment. Our home is exceptionally peaceful, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and plenty of outdoor areas to explore. We eat many meals outside when the weather is nice, and often take a short stroll out to enjoy the sunsets in the evening. The house is heated with a wood stove and we have a few electric heaters for very cold nights. The house itself is not luxurious—it is slowly being upgraded, but is comfortable and good for cooking and relaxing in. There is a weekly market 10 minutes away in Simorre on Friday from 4-7pm, and another market 10 minutes away on Saturday in L'Isle-en-Dodon from 9-12am. Simorre has a lovely restaurant that has …

Tourism and Leisure

From just up the road, the view of the Pyrenees is breathtaking on a clear day. The Gers is a very quiet region, but it is possible to drive to the Pyrenees for a day hike in 90 minutes. Toulouse is exactly an hour by car from our front door, and it offers beaucoup art, culture, restaurants, and more.

Strasbourg, France - January 2023

December 2021

I spent a little over three weeks at Chris and Francesca’s homestead. They were incredibly welcoming hosts, warm, smart and health-conscious. Chris is an amazing cook. Their daughter Charlie is a cute little energizer bunny. Rosco the gentle old dog is sweet and unfussy. The cats Dingo and Clarice are the real “masters” of the house. Clarice in particular demands to be petted and enjoys napping in the guest bedroom. She ended up getting along with my cat Gulliver, but it took a while for these two rascals to get past the cold war stage. I very much enjoyed the crisp fresh air and quiet walks in the countryside, as well as all the geocaching opportunities in the area. All in all, I heartily recommend Chris and Francesca as hosts for future house and pet-sits.

Neuvic-Entier, France - November 2021

Francesca has been brilliant offering us shelter even though she had to cancel her journey due to first corona virus outbreak, we manage otherwise but are still grateful for that and wishing well to future house-sits. Looking forward to meeting the lovely tribe.
