Needs and animals

Pool maintenance | 1 Dog | 1 Cat

We have a medium-sized puggle/bulldog mix (looks like a small boxer) and 1 tabby cat. Both are very affectionate and friendly. Feeding and caring for these animals is the main reason for this posting. The dog does not require walks as he is very good at being active himself when let out in our fenced backyard.

The dog and cat are on daily medications. Both are very easy to administer as the medications are just mixed in with wet food that they love.

Besides that, just general upkeep of the house/property while you stay. In the summer months, the pool would require a little attention as well, but it is salt water and has a cleaning robot so it is relatively easy to maintain. The hot tub would also require minimal attention.

Additional information about these dates

The dates given are our flight dates. Ideally, we would like sitters to arrive at least a day prior so we can show them around etc. If possible, we would like a single sitter for the whole time frame, however, given the length we will be away we may consider splitting into 2 sits.

House

Historic house built by Jacob Hespeler himself. This house is well over 150 years old but has been fully updated while being careful not to remove its historic charm. The house is on a half-acre property full of trees and plants. In the large backyard there is a heated saltwater pool and a hot tub. We generally have the pool open in the Summer, and the hot tub in the Winter (however if desired, we can have the hot tub available for summer sits as well). There is also a large patio area right out the back door with a large BBQ, pellet smoker, and a sitting area. In the front of the house, there is a decent-sized porch with a screened-in sitting area. The house is outfitted with Google home in various rooms. It can be used to set the thermostat, turn on/off the lights, play music (via Spotify account), and control Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, or YouTube on the TVs. It's also useful for communicating between the floors of the house and just asking general questions. There is an Xbox One in the living room which you are welcome to use. The house is …

The house is also outfitted with Nest smoke detectors.

For extended stays, if mowing or snow removal is necessary, we have a lawn tractor that makes the job easy.

The house, being set back in a large property provides a good amount of privacy. Being able to sit in the front or backyard during the summer is great, especially with all the trees and plants.

Cambridge is in a great location within 30 minutes of St. Jacobs, and 1-2 hours (depending on traffic) from Stratford, Niagara Falls, or Toronto. The house is about a 5-minute drive to the nearest Grocery store, and a 10-minute drive to Cambridge's main strip (Hespeler Road) where you can find all sorts of restaurants and stores as well as the Cambridge Mall.

We received a very warm welcome from our Canadian cousins 🙂!! Pat, Krista, and Gracie entrusted us with their home and the care of their two beloved pets, Mwoi and Mitchell. We had a wonderful time with them, they were so easy to look after. And the cuddles were endless! Canada is absolutely beautiful in the snow. If the opportunity arises again, we would be delighted to see this lovely family again.😎

We stayed with Krista, Pat and Gracie they were wonderful and very attentive to us. We had a great time with their family and met Pat's father Al who was so helpful. Mwoi and Mitchell are two adorable fur balls who are so cuddly, we loved having them around. Everything was done to make our lives easier. We miss them already, but everything has to end. We will think of them often.

We had a wonderful stay in Cambridge (Ontario) at the home of Pat and Krista and their daughter Grace while they were away. Their pets, Mwoi the dog and Mitchell the cat, needed a bit of care and had to take their medication from their food twice a day, but although they were old, they were in excellent shape and full of energy. We met the sweetest animals in the world! It was as if we'd always had them with us. Cambridge is well placed for day trips to Toronto, the lakes or Niagara Falls. The house is very comfortable, equipped with everything you need and has a large garden in a very quiet area. We were very often in contact with Pat and Krista who were travelling in Asia but who were very responsive on Whatsapp messaging. We really like this family, who were warm, spontaneous, generous, and attentive to our comfort and needs. We'll be back with pleasure!
