Needs and animals

Many plants | Big garden | Vegetable patch | 1 Dog

We have a 3-year-old terrier mix called Winnie. She is an affectionate, quiet and sweet-natured girl, who loves walks and chasing squirrels. She needs a half-hour walk 2 x a day, and to be taken out for 5 minutes around lunch time and again before bed, as we don't have a garden.

We also have a large allotment plot, full of flowers and vegetables. It is a 20-minute walk (you can combine it with walking Winnie as it is across a park), or a 10-minute bike ride (Lime bikes are readily available in the area)

The allotment needs watering/strimming/weeding/picking, and tending every other day, daily for between 1-2 hours or so, depending on the weather (if it's rained much) and what is in bloom or ripe. It is a beautiful and tranquil spot next to an ancient woodland.

We also have troughs on our terrace and plants out the front of the property which will also need watering or every few days, depending on the weather.

We also have some houseplants that need weekly watering.

Lizzie and John were very kind and welcoming. They showed me around in their house and in the allotment. Furthermore they were available in case of any questions. The allotment is a lovely place to take care of, being surrounded by squirrels and dahlia's. I would recommend the stay.

Lizzie and John are amazing, friendly and very helpful hosts who welcomed me into their home very warmly despite me arriving too late on day one. They explained my tasks very thoroughly and took me to their beautiful and very lush allotment garden in the dark so I could see for myself what was involved in my "job". This was extremely helpful as I could easily find my way to their garden in their absence and knew exactly what was where and which flowers and vegetables needed special attention. I have also very much enjoyed their 'green' home with a newly renovated roof terrace overlooking parts of London. My accommodation was beautiful, practical and most comfortable. And, of course, being able to housesit in London was very special for me too. I have enjoyed this vibrant city enormously and thanks to Lizzie and John's thorough information about the city's public transport system and area maps provided, I found it easy to find my way around. Thank you John and Lizzie for letting me stay at your place and trusting me with your great number of beautiful plants and your home. I would return anytime and can recommend this house/garden sitting opportunity greatly.
