Needs and animals

Many plants | Pool maintenance | 1 Dog

We have wire-haired Dachshund. She is 6 years old and pretty easy to care for. She needs to be fed morning and evening and she loves a mid-day walk; there are paths nearby, or in the neighborhood.. In the morning and evening she can be let out into the yard, but has to be supervised as she has been known to run off when not watched (even though the entire yard is fenced). There is also a vegetable garden and other parts of flower gardens that need watering, every day or every other day if there is no rain. There are some plants in the house as well that need watering.

House

Updated farmhouse from the 1870s with 1.4 acres of vegetable and flower gardens and an in-ground pool. 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, master bedroom has ensuite bathroom. 2-car garage. Great porch in the back of the house to enjoy summer evenings. There is one functioning bike. The house is full of books, in 3 different languages. Norton is a small town of about 18,000 people with drugstores, one grocery supermarket, coffee shops and hardware stores. The train station (commuter train to Boston and Providence) is in the next town, Mansfield. Having a car is essential, even though there is a commuter train from Mansfield (next town) to Boston. Norton is well situated to Boston, Cape Cod and Providence and other destinations on the shore. We have had house sitters from various parts of the US, Canada and Latin America and they really enjoyed the location. There is a former railroad track that is good for walking the dog, or nearby nature reserves and DCR properties (e.g., Borderland). The house itself is very cozy with a great screened-in porch in the back and an in-ground pool. The kitchen has an island, gas stove top and two ovens (yes, we are foodies and we cook!), …

Tourism and Leisure

Cape Cod and Boston are the main attractions; they are both about 40 miles away. It's a one-hour drive to Newport, RI, Southern New England's sailing haven and home of the mansions of the golden age. Providence is about 30 minutes away, with museums, a zoo and excellent restaurants (thanks to a culinary arts school in town). Brown University and RISD are both located in Providence. Boston and Cape Cod don't need any advertising! The commuter train from Mansfield takes about 45 minutes to downtown Boston.

Great stay in Kristine's wonderful home which is very comfortable and furnished with style. The location is great for visiting Boston, Rhode Island and Cape Cod and Tilly the wire haired daschund is a joy to look after. We thoroughly enjoyed our three weeks in Massachusetts.

Kristine is a wonderful homeowner, she is thoughtful, attentive and an excellent communicator. She stayed in touch with us to ensure that our sit and her baby Tilly were doing well. She gave us great suggestions of things to do in the area. Her home is very clean and since we were there at the holidays, she had everything decorated in a warm cozy style. We had a great connection and look forward to future sits. Kristine is well-traveled and we enjoyed fascinating conversations. She also has a green thumb - while we cared for her indoor plants, I'm sure that in spring and summer her gardens are spectacular. Tilly is the easiest dog to care for - sweet, and while she's small -her personality fills a room in a great way. If you have an opportunity to sit for Kristine and care for Tilly, you will create great memories.

Tilaran, Costa Rica - November 2018

we had a very nice stay in the quiet rural, wonderfully peaceful location. Tilly the dog was an easy, playful companion to take care of and enjoy. Kristine was a very pleasant host with a worldly perspective.
