A word at the cats, I never intended to have 5, 1 would have been enough, but they all came by different routes- needing a home. The last one Sol (I found on mid summer eve) in my laundry basket- a tiny 5 or 6 week old kitten, no idea how he got there, full grown now, a very knowing and affectionate creature, anyway they are all different but all just need food and kindness. The chickens and ducks just need to be let out in the morning, they have the freedom of the garden, fed and closed up at night, they go in on there own.

House

a small house on one level with 2 bedrooms- home of an artist, not an Ikea showcase. I have no immediate neighbors, but am at the end of a small mountain village. The garden is large, with the backdrop of a forest and a small river running its length. Main source of heating is a wood stove, which I keep going all winter, there is also an open fire and an electric radiator. Constant hot water. this is a very peaceful place, with few cars, although you can hear the hum of a small woodyard, 100 metres away.The surrounding area is what I would call wild and very beautiful. The nearest village with shops is 10 minutes away by car, Esperzel, the nearest ski station 30 minutes. The nearest main small town for general shopping is Quillan, which covers most needs- shops, bars restaurants, it is a gentle place- you would need a car really.. This is an area steeped in history and natural beauty. Can be cold in winter, sometimes snow- hot in summer, with the heat tempered by the river there is a good dvd library- i like intelligent sc fi, also thrillers and a few long box …

there is a good dvd library- i like intelligent sc fi, also thrillers and a few long box sets. some interesting books, there is also a free english book stall in Quillan and an english library which also has movies

This is a tranquil place- if you like the high life, its not for you. If you like the natural world and all it has to offer in terms of walking, cycling- just looking or "being" in nature then you will enjoy life here in all its colours and seasons. As an artist I find it to be the perfect place to be creative, so if you want to get your creative juices flowing it's a good place to be, although as i live alone just now, i am happy to go into town a couple of times a week to engage with my fellow humans. The villagers in Belfort are nice enough but there are no long conversations- about 25 people live here.

Tourism and Leisure

Vast amount of history here- we are in Cathar country, but the history goes back to roman times and there are many ruins in the region. Monsiguer is 30 minutes away and there are some enormous old castle ruins to explore. Rennes le Chateau 40 minutes away. For me it is just the elemental beauty of the place which never ceases to amaze, i am always left feeling speachless
