Needs and animals

3 Cats | 1 Farm animal

I am looking for someone who would like a taste of a medieval French village, whilst looking after 3 friendly cats (with very different personalities) and 3 white friendly mini call ducks. On a basic level, they all simply require feeding twice a day, so the days would be your own.
On a more in depth level the ducks would love you to garden with them, or at least look for worms for them. They are very keen to assist with any garden work. The cats would love to take it in turns to sit on your lap for a cuddle. Two are quite shy, so it will take them longer to cuddle.
The ducks live in the garden and have an enclosure they go into at night, at dusk. They are let out in the morning to roam the enclosed garden during the day. They can't fly, so can't leave the garden.
The cats are essentially home bodies, but have free choice to roam outdoors or indoors.

Additional information about these dates

I have elderly parents in the USA and am in need of visiting them sometime in the next few months, most likely end of February or sometime in March. It's more a question of finding someone willing to 'rough' it in my home and look after my pets for me so I can go to visit my parents. So if you are interested, or have questions, don't hesitate to contact me to discuss options.

House

My home is wee medieval house and walled garden. And very much a restoration project. It has the very basics at this stage, water and electricity, but only just. So more indoor camping then luxury house living. It's a work in progress, with something new done every day. There are house plans in the work, and I will try to update them here as often as possible. The house is dry, with thick walls, and keeps the heat in very well. There is a temporary kitchen with sink, gas burner and crock pot. Currently there is no hot water until the plumber puts in a hot water boiler, so it's a kettle and washing up in the sink . (Camping style) There is a toilet, but no shower as yet. Though 2 outside tubs if you wish to brave them (or know how to assist in building a rocket stove.) It sits on an ancient cobbled way, just up from a river with great fishing. It's a very quiet area, with friendly neighbours. There is wifi available, a radio with bluetooth speaker, and a selection of books in English. The house is not luxurious since it is a restoration project, but it is unique, with …

The house is not luxurious since it is a restoration project, but it is unique, with many unusual medieval features still in situ. So if you are a lover of history, this house and the village will be of interest.

The garden is newly planted, but will boast a permaculture food forest.
There is an 'abri' an outside shaded patio for enjoying sitting in the garden, with garden furniture.

This little French village has the basic amenities, including a very good Bistro, Bakery, Bar, Hair Salon and Convenience Store.
There is a bus that can take you to Bourges for the day (very large town) for 3 euros each way. Or into Saint Amand Montrond for lunch. There is also a good taxi service you can reserve.
There is great fishing in the nearby river. And the Abbey Noirlac has many events on, as well as walking and cycling paths. There is a water park nearby as well.
A bicycle is available for transport.

Tourism and Leisure

There are some very good wineries in the area, and the Loire Valley with places like Sancerre are only an hour away by car. There are many castles and chateaus in the area to visit.
A water park is about 5 km away, and Noirlac Abbey about 4 km away, just on the edge of the village.
There are good cycling routes around the area, both flat and hilly, with maps available.

Alycea was a very friendly informative host.. the cats and ducks were easy to look after. The area was wonderful for walking, which we did daily. The medical village was very interesting . We wish Alycea good luck in her renovations of a lovely medieval home and walled garden .
