Someone who will respect our home as their own, and treat our animals with the love and attention they deserve. You do need to be experienced looking after animals and be prepared to spend time with them. Also, are you flexible? I work with an Animal Association and I have regular additional animals that have been abandoned that I foster until they are reformed...usually cats and kittens.

General upkeep of the house. The animals need to be fed and watered in line with their routine, and the dogs need a good long walk in the forest every day. Don’t worry about getting lost, the dogs know how to get home for their tea!

A reasonable level of fitness is required to keep the dogs exercised! Looking after cats dogs and chicken is time consuming and you do need to be prepared for that.

Our home is peaceful and situated in a small hamlet on the edge of a forest.The countryside surrounding the house is breath taking and there are plenty of walking opportunities both near to the house and a little further a field.Although the property feels isolated we are 20 minutes away from the nearest supermarket , pharmacy and other general stores. Coimbra is also 35 minutes away , the third city of Portugal, with its restaurants, museums and abundant history.

From the time we were picked up from Coimbra railway station in early December until our departure one month later, Lorraine and Martin were the perfect hosts. They made us feel welcome at their beautiful home and provided first-class accommodation in their annex flat during our stay. The tasks assigned during this home sit involved looking after their 5 dogs, 10+ cats and 6 chickens. Fortunately, we had several days together and we received ample instructions to prepare us for the daily routines. The rural cottage is in an idyllic location in the mountainous region of Central Portugal featuring beautiful scenery, endless walking trails through the forests and plenty of fresh air. The dogs with their individual characters were easy to care for and made our daily walks in the forest something to look forward to. The cats were no trouble at all and the chickens provided us with daily fresh eggs. All in all, our first home-sitting experience was delightful and very memorable. Thanks Lorraine and Martin for your invitation to stay at your place and for the trust you placed in us to look after your property and your animals. We would not hesitate to return if a future opportunity presented itself.
