House

Newly built apartment building. Two bedrooms. One bath. Well insulated. Heating/cooing in the floor. No plants (at the time of writing). Quiet area with a tram connection to Germany/downtown Strasbourg as well as a bus to Strasbourg. Large balcony overlooking equestrian training grounds and the largest park in Strasbourg. Ten minute walk to Germany by way of a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Rhine. We are on the outskirts of Strasbourg, nestled between the small city of Kehl in Germany and the Eurometropol of Strasbourg. The largest park in Strasbourg is directly across from the apartment along with equestrian training grounds and a small circus. There is a footpath to Germany where there are loads of restaurants and shopping. There is a twice weekly outdoor market in the town square in Kehl (Tuesday and Friday). In Port du Rhin (our neighborhood) there is a Carrefour grocery store within 7-8 minutes walking. There is a bus that stops directly in front of the apartment building, running electric buses so quieter than diesel buses, that will also take you to downtown Strasbourg/train station on a northerly path. Moreover, there is a tram station about 8 minutes away walking that will take you on …

The tram and the both both go to Strasbourg Central Train Station. From the train station there are trains directly to Entzheim (Strasbourg) airport.

Tourism and Leisure

Europa Park (a theme park) is less than an hour away. There are buses from Strasbourg as well as a new SNCF train that goes to Europa Park. There are dozens of castles along the Vosges mountain range. Plenty of Grand Routes (GR) for hiking both north, west and south of here. There is also excellent hiking in Germany. During Autumn there are festivals in many of the small towns celebrating the picking of the grapes in the vineyards. Piste des Forts (85 km): A transnational loop crossing the Rhine into Germany, linking 19 historical military defense works and parks. Built after World War I by Imperial Germany to defend Strasbourg from future attacks. EuroVelo 5 (Via Romea Francigena): Connects London to Rome, passing through Strasbourg via the scenic Canal de la Marne au Rhin and Canal de la Bruche toward Saverne. EuroVelo 15 (Rhine Cycle Route): Runs from the source of the Rhine in Switzerland to the North Sea in the Netherlands, routing cyclists safely through Strasbourg and onward to La Wantzenau and Gambsheim. European Quarter to Parc de l'Orangerie: A short, iconic local ride weaving past the European Parliament and local waterways. Boucle Transfrontalière (30 km): An easy cross-border loop utilizing the pedestrian-and-bike …

We were delighted to return for another house sit for Michael and Isabel and their son, Quinn. They are kind, thoughtful, and generous hosts who made us feel completely at home, and their detailed welcome information and recommendations helped us make the most of the beautiful Alsace region. The apartment is in a fantastic location, just a short walk from a large park, with excellent access to buses, trams, and trains, so a car isn’t needed. We especially enjoyed morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the equestrian park, as well as regular walks across the Rhine into Germany. Everything was as described, communication was excellent throughout, and the sit was very relaxing and enjoyable. We would happily return and highly recommend this stay. A sincere thank you to our wonderful hosts! A+
