We are looking for someone (preferably 2 people) to house sit our pets while we will be away next summer. We would prefer someone renting a car (a car will be useful for you to go around the island and also just in case of vet emergency). Summer in Cyprus can be quite hot, so having a car will give you the flexibility to have day trips to the sea or to the mountains. 

We live in a rustic house with a small garden in the center of a traditional picturesque stone village in the countryside of Cyprus. From our house it is just a few minutes walk to reach the valley where several nature paths start (This is where we walk our dogs daily).

Our village is 30 minute drive from the capital Nicosia. We are also 30 mins drive from the nearby Machairas mountains where there are several pic nic sites and possibilities for trekking. Troodos mountains are approx 1h drive. Seaside destinations can also be reached within one hour drive.

If you like cycling you could also use  our mountain bike. 

We have 2 senior dogs who will need walking preferably 2 times per day (20-30 mins each), feeding 2 times per day and cleaning of their yard once per day. In the summer, because of the heath, the dogs needs to be walk early morning (no later than 8.30-9am) and in the evening after 6.30-7pm.

At the moment we have 11 cats. They will need feeding 2 times per day and changing of the cat litter once per day. The reason we have so many cats is because in Cyprus there is a big problem with stray cats, so every year we may have an additional visitor to our garden or we may rescue a new kitten from the street or help a sick cat. Clearly, having a cat colony is not the same as consciously adopting one or 2 pets to live in apartment. Most of the cats we feed are friendly and like to be pet and spend most of the time in the garden. Some others are more shy and just show up at feeding times and then go wandering around the village. Few of the cats spend most of their time in the house  (3-4 cats sleep indoor in the living area). We are doing our best to keep everyone well fed, neutered and taken to the vet when necessary. Many times we had found lovely families (in Cyprus or abroad) to adopt some of the kittens/cats.

We have our flight out of Cyprus booked for the early morning of 25th August, so we will need you to be here few days earlier to show you the place, the animals, and explain everything.
We will fly back to Cyprus on the 7th September late evening. Depending on your flight possibilities you could stay additionally 1-2 days or you may have to leave -2 days earlier (in that case we can arrange with some friends/relatives to pick up the key and look after the animals for the extra day),

We have automatic irrigation in our garden so not much to do there, but you may have to water a few flower pots that are not connected.

We will be leaving on the 26th August but we would prefer for the house sitter/s to be here at least one day in advance so that we could explain everything to them about our house and our pets. If they need to leave earlier than the 11th September that can be easily arranged with our neighbors or parents in law.

We live in a countryside house in the center of a traditional stone village in Cyprus. It is a 2 floor house, with open plan kitchen & living room downstairs and 2 rooms & 1 bathroom upstairs. You will be sleeping in a single bed (that can be converted to double bed if 2 people are staying) in our guest room (which is now our baby s room-do not worry, baby will sleep with us !) . We have a small garden with a sitting area under a canopy and a space where we grow organic vegetables (in the summer we have tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and aromatic herbs that you are welcome to collect during your stay). In the winter we do not grow much apart from aromatic herbs and sometimes salad,
From our house, it is just a few minutes walk to reach the valley where several nature paths start (This is where we walk our dogs daily). there are several pleasent walks in the valley where we usually take our dogs.
Summer may be hot in Cyprus, but autumn, spring and winter are very pleasent, with temperatures usually warmer than in the rest of Europe.

We have a mountain bike that you could use during your stay.
We have aircondition in every room (for summer) and fireplace in the living room (for winter)
We have a TV, many DVDs, wifi and Netflix. We have a library with many reading books in english, greek, italian.
We can provide you with maps and info of the area.

There are some walking paths in the valley walking distance from the village where we enjoy taking our dogs for a walk. There is also a pic-nic site under eucalyptus trees.
The village has one tavern, 2 minimarkets and one traditional coffee shop kafeneio and one brunch place (open on sat and sun). There is a big supermarket, pharmacies, banks and other shops in the next village 10 mins drive. Our vet is 15-20 mins drive.

Cyprus is a great tourist destination for people who loves nature and history and there is plenty of sunshine even in winter months . Our village is located in the center of the island of Cyprus so it is a great base to explore many parts of the country. It is reccomended to rent a car (especially in the summer!) if you are planning to go around the island (as public transport is not the best). But if you do not want to go far, there are pleasant walks starting from the village leading to the Tamassos dam, passing from interesting sedimentary rock formation. There is an ancient monastery 20 mins walk and a small archeological site nearby. 10 mins drive will lead you to a surreal volcanic canyon and an organic farm. If you are keen hikers like us, you will enjoy trekking in the Machairas mountains -30 mins drive. We can provide you with maps of the area and local attractions.
There are some Unesco churches with amazingly preserved wall paintings from the XII century 40 mins drive.
Our area is also dotted with many picturesque stone-built villages (including our own).
The capital Nicosia is 30 mins drive (or 50 mins bus ride). You can wonder around the narrow streets of the old town withing the venetian walls. Nicosia is divided in 2 sides , the greek and the turkish sides. It is possible to cross the border by foot an it is interesting to discover the life of the 2 communities.
